Genesis has revealed the GV90 EV as its new flagship SUV. Showcased in its production-ready avatar, the GV90 is the largest and most luxurious Genesis model to date. It is based on the 2024 Neolun Concept (Neolun translates to 'New Moon') and retains most of the concept's exterior design, but sports a more polished cabin. It gets the largest-ever battery on any Hyundai model yet, and a dual-motor AWD setup.
- 5.3-metre length is closer to the Rolls-Royce Cullinan
- 123.5kWh battery offers around 500km range
- Dual-motor AWD setup produces 544hp, 800Nm
- 4-seater variant gets coach doors, hidden B-pillar
Genesis is offering the GV90 globally in two versions: the standard GV90 and the GV90 Neolun, with 7- and 4-seater layouts, respectively.
Genesis GV90 powertrain details
Producing 544hp and 800Nm, it is the most powerful EV for the Hyundai group yet
The Genesis GV90 eSUV is offered with a 123.5kWh battery, the biggest ever for the larger Hyundai group, which offers around 500km range (as per the manufacturer’s internal testing). The battery powers dual electric motors, which deliver a combined output of 544hp and 800Nm, the most of any EV in the larger Hyundai group. The battery pack can be charged from 10-80 percent in 22 minutes using a 350kW DC fast charger.
Each motor of the GV90 gets its own e-LSD (limited-slip differential), another first for the Hyundai group, through which “power is efficiently supplied to all four wheels during high-speed cornering for agile handling”. It also enhances the EV’s grip on snowy, rainy or uneven roads. The GV90 also gets multi-chamber air suspension that adjusts ride height to road conditions, and dual-valve adaptive dampers that soften or stiffen for a pliant ride in all situations. The EV gets rear-axle steering, enabling the rear wheels to turn up to five degrees.
The GV90 also introduces a new power control system for the Hyundai group. This system starts the EV as soon as the passenger pulls a door handle and moves the column-mounted drive selector from the 12 o'clock to the 2 o'clock position when the door closes automatically, keeping the EV ready for drive mode selection.
Genesis GV90 exterior design
Gets slight design changes compared to the 2024 Neolun Concept
At first glance, the production-ready Genesis GV90 looks identical to the 2024 Neolun Concept, especially the signature two-line LED DRLs typical of Genesis offerings and Maybach-like wheel design. However, a closer look reveals larger air inlets in the front bumper with a gloss-black finish, which looks different from the concept’s, which had some silver contrasting elements. The clamshell bonnet on the production-ready model looks similar to the concept.
As mentioned earlier, the 24-inch Maybach-styled wheels and LED lighting units on the front fenders are similar to the concept; the production-ready version replaces the concept’s camera-based outside rearview monitor with ORVMs. The 7-seater version gets frameless door windows, while the 7-seater version skips the B-pillar altogether to offer powered coach doors.
At the rear, the production-ready Genesis GV90’s rear design is identical to the Neolun Concept, save for a distinct rear bumper featuring some chrome elements on the production-ready version. The two-line taillights and Genesis wordmark on the tailgate are identical to the concept.
The GV90 is Genesis’ first full-size flagship SUV; its length is comparable to the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and the Bentley Bentayga EWB. Here are the detailed specifications:
Genesis GV90 specifications | |
Length | 5285mm |
Width | 2030mm |
Height | 1815-1825 mm (depending on wheel size) |
Wheelbase | 3245mm |
Genesis GV90 interior design and features
Feature-loaded cabin features front swivelling seats and an extendable infotainment system
While the GV90’s exterior design closely resembles the 2024 Neolun Concept, the interior has been thoroughly polished in the production-ready version. A major highlight of the EV is a 23.6-inch OLED infotainment system, powered by Pleos Connect, extendable to 24.6 inches at the touch of a button when parked. To make the dashboard look minimalistic, Genesis has replaced a typical driver’s display with a 25-inch head-up display (HUD), and offered motorised air vents that replace the traditional knobs. The GV90 gets real glass buttons on the dashboard.
Another interesting feature is the GV90 Neolun variant’s swivelling front seats, which can rotate by 180 degrees when the EV is parked. It also gets a ‘Comfort Partition’ between the boot area and the second row to “insulate the cabin from noise in the luggage compartment”. Other notable features include massage seats, a 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, a panoramic glass roof with configurable transparency settings, and a heated windshield.
Genesis has equipped the GV90 with 12 airbags, including a roof airbag, which the manufacturer claims to be a first for any passenger car globally. The roof airbag deploys rapidly to cover the entire roof glass in case of a rollover, preventing occupant ejection and reducing injuries from roof contact. On top of this, the seat airbags deploy in two stages according to the occupants' posture.
