MV Agusta has taken to Instagram to announce that its stunning retro Superveloce superbike – displayed in concept form at EICMA 2018 – will go on sale in 2020. The Italian motorcycle company also said that the price list for the motorcycle will be shared later this year. Unlike radically styled modern day MVs, this one harks back to the brand’s old racers and oozes retro design elements all over.
Back at 2018 EICMA, when MV unveiled the Superveloce 800 and spoke about a production version coming soon, it said that the motorcycle “is a candidate to become one of the most eclectic and original models in company history.” The styling is clearly a mix of old school and modern elements. The concept bike used a carbon-fibre fairing, which we believe will make it to the production model as well. While the headlight and windscreen on the Superveloce concept featured an old-school yellow tint, we believe it won’t make it to the production-ready model as it won’t meet regulations.
The concept bike was also shown with a fully-digital dash and LED lighting – both of which will most certainly make it to the production model. Similarly, we can expect it to feature the colour scheme, rear-seat cowl and unique fuel-cap strap as well. The minimalist jet-engine-like rear end and unique wheels are design highlights that MV Agusta will bring to the table as well. However, it might not be as sleek as the concept, since it’ll have to be fitted with a mandatory number-plate holder.
While the company hasn’t shared any mechanical specifications of the upcoming motorcycle, the 800 in its name hints that the company’s 799cc, three-cylinder engine (also found in the F3 800) will make its way to the final model. On the F3 800, this engine makes 148hp and 88Nm of torque.
The Superveloce will most likely be a limited-run model, which means there is only a slim chance that more than a couple of bikes will make their way to the Indian market.
