Maruti has launched the new third-gen Dzire with prices starting at Rs 5.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) The new Dzire is based on the same platform as the Baleno and is lighter than the car it replaces. The base Dzire (right) gets silver trim bits in place of chrome as on the higher variants, and black door mirrors. There is little to separate the base and higher variants at the rear. The base variant here lacks the trim badging. Compared to the older car(right), the new Dzire gets a steeply raked A-pillar and a better flowing profile. The new Dzire sits lower and wider than its predecessor. Base LXi/LDi variants get only the bare basics like AC and power steering. There's no tachometer either. The mid-level VXi/VDi variants get wood inserts on the dash, an audio system and even steering- mounted controls. Top trim models get goodies such as Maruti's SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system, reverse camera and auto climate control. The new front seats are supportive and comfy, and the cushioning feels a bit softer than before. There’s ample height adjustment for the driver’s seat too. Longer wheelbase opens up more space for rear occupants. AMT gearbox option now available on both the petrol and diesel engine. Steering mounted controls are of high quality. The instrument console looks crisp and the needles at zero-degree position, like on the Ignis, feel sporty. Audio system on the V trim offers CD, USB, aux and Bluetooth connectivity. Wood inserts add to the upmarket feel of the cabin. Rear AC vents available from the mid V trim onwards. Rear passengers also get a 12V power outlet. 83hp, 1.2-litre petrol motor is claimed to return 22kpl. LED projector headlamps only available on the Z+ trim. Standard units for the rest of the line-up. LED inserts in the tail-lamps are standard across the range. 378 litre boot is more spacious than its predecessor. ARAI rating of 28.4kpl makes the Dzire the most fuel efficient diesel in the country. Up front, the Dzire shares many styling elements such as the headlamps, bonnet and fenders with the yet-to-be-launched new Swift. The new Dzire gets a much more attractive profile compared to its predecessor. There’s a nice flow to the bonnet and fenders, the windscreens and the roof blend into a uniform arch and the strong shoulder line and the compact boot give it plenty of definition. Boot lid features a neatly integrated spoiler element. Tail-lamps feature LED inserts. Front end gets plenty of chrome on top variants. Alloy wheels shown are only available on the top ZXi+/ZDi+ trim as standard. Headlamps are now LED projector units and feature daytime running lamps along the lower and outer edge. Front end gets plenty of chrome on top variants. The steering design is new and gets a faux wood finish along the lower portion. Some switchgear inside the cabin still shared with other Maruti models. Top variants feature Maruti's SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system. The new Dzire continues to be powered by Maruti's tried and tested 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engines. Both units now offer the choice of a manual or AMT gearbox.
