Hi Autocar, I am looking to buy a motorcycle in the 300-400cc segment with a retro design and good performance. I am considering the Jawa 42 FJ. Is it a good choice in this segment? Also, are there any reliability or long-term ownership issues with Jawa motorcycles that I should be aware of?

The Jawa 42 FJ is a good option to consider in the neo-retro space. While the earlier Jawa bikes had some issues, the latest models have ironed them out to a large extent. The 42 FJ also comes with a 4-year / 50,000km warranty, which should give you added peace of mind.

Do bear in mind that while the bikes have come a long way, Classic Legends (the parent company of Jawa, Yezdi and BSA) still has a fairly hit/miss reputation when it comes to service. So we'd recommend getting in touch with your nearest authorised dealership and finding out more for yourself.

If you reconsider your decision to go with the Jawa, then the Triumph Speed T4 is a great alternative. It has a smooth and torquey engine, good build quality and similiar overall performance as the 42 FJ.

It would also be wise to take a test ride of both before you make a decision.

Yes.. triumph bikes are my 1st choice but they don't have any dealership in my city, Bathinda. Please ask Triumph to open a dealership here also. 😆

The problem with Triumph 400cc bikes is that they don't have much of a road presence. It is an underdog achiever kinda bike. If the bikes looked substantial, Even I would trade in my RR310 for it.

Very true, they appear as 200-250 cc bikes

Hi everyone, I’m planning to buy a new motorcycle this year. I am 39 years old, 5'10", and currently dealing with some upper back pain issues. My daily ride is the office commute to Hinjewadi (Pune), which involves heavy stop-and-go traffic. I’m looking for a bike that is comfortable enough for my back but won't feel boring after 5 years, something that suits a 45-year-old’s personality as well. I am currently confused between the Triumph Speed T4 (the new entry in the 350cc segment), the Honda H'ness CB350, and the Speed 400. I’m also considering waiting for the rumored Bonneville 350. Given the traffic and my back issues, which of these offers the best balance of ergonomics and long-term character? Open to suggestions.

The Honda CB350 H'ness and Triumph Speed T4 offer similar riding experience with their relaxed engines and upright ergonomics, although the T4 will be quicker owing to its more powerful engine. The Speed 400 is a cut above in terms of performance and handling but it doesn't really come at the expense of comfort. You should take a test ride of these three before you choose so you can figure out which one is best for you.Additionally, we'd also recommend you look at the Royal Enfield Bullet / Classic 350 because these bikes are very comfortable, offer upright riding positions and a plush suspension setup. Yes, these are heavier and slower than the aforementioned bikes but for city use, the 350cc Royal Enfields are something that fit the bill perfectly and as you've put it, won't feel "boring" after a longer period as long as you don't demand frenetic performance.

Hi Autocar team. I booked a Bajaj Dominar 250 on March 9th from a dealership in Jammu. After six weeks of waiting and vague answers, I personally visited the showroom to demand an update. They showed me their system. The dealership is actively applying for the order, but the issue is entirely from Bajaj's end. The factory is simply not accepting the order. I am incredibly frustrated. Are there currently known production halts or severe supply chain issues for the Dominar 250? Any advice on how I can escalate this directly with Bajaj corporate to get a straight answer on my dispatch date?

The Bajaj Dominar 250 is not a high-volume product for Bajaj, and therefore, its production process isn't likely to be as speedy as something popular, say, a Platina. To expedite matters, you should ask your dealer for three things (preferably in writing or on e-mail): your order ID, the current status with a tentative dispatch week, and whether your colour is on hold. A worthwhile option worth considering is to source a bike from an alternative nearby dealer. If that also doesn't help you, put a short, polite post on Bajaj's official social media handles across various platforms. Also, mark the dealership’s General Manager and the Bajaj area sales manager, so you tick all the boxes.

Hi, I am considering buying the Royal Enfield Classic 650. Is it the right choice? Are there any plans to introduce more colour options? Also, will tubeless tyres be offered anytime soon?

Whether or not any motorcycle is the right choice for you is something we cannot decide for you. You should take a comprehensive test ride and weigh its pros and cons as well as see its fitness for purpose before you make your decision.Royal Enfield, like other manufacturers, periodically introduces new colours for its offerings, and it could do so for the Classic 650, although a timeline for this isn't known. Lastly, the tubeless spoke wheels for the Classic 650 have been a major ask from both the mainstream media as well as paying customers. Royal Enfield usually listens and acts proactively on this feedback, but as of now, the company hasn't officially commented on when these wheels will be fitted to the bigger Classic.
