The Wrangler offers the undiluted Jeep experience. The shape is a throwback to the original Willys and form follows function; a removable roof and detachable doors are part of the kit. India gets the long-wheelbase, five-door version but the Wrangler isn't the most comfortable SUV for the money. The second row seats are upright and drivers will also have to make do with some ergonomic compromises. There is a hard-wearing look to the cabin and Jeep has packed in essential goodies too.
The Wrangler’s 268hp, 2.0-litre petrol engine is smooth and surprisingly punchy, while the 8-speed gearbox is pleasant. Ride quality is a bit lumpy on tarmac but off-road, the Jeep Wrangler is incredible. It’ll take you deep into the wilderness (and get you back out) without breaking into a sweat. But how many Wrangler buyers will actually venture into the rough is another matter.
