Mahindra & Mahindra is betting big on the electric future and this will be more than evident at the manufacturer’s display at Auto Expo 2014. The star of the exhibit will be an electric sportscar that will be a far cry from the e2o already on sale. Likely to be a strict two-seater, the car will be powered by an approximately 105kW (140bhp) motor. The sportscar won’t disappoint in terms of performance either – its claimed 0-100kph time of around seven seconds says quite a lot. The concept’s length will be less than four metres long, and this is an indicator that if it does eventually go into production, it could take advantage of the government’s small car tax benefits.
Another interesting electric car at the Mahindra exhibit will be the Formula E racing car. As you may know, Mahindra will field a team in the FIA Formula E Championship that kicks off in September 2014. About the same size as a traditional F3 car, the E racer’s electric motor produces a maximum of 200kW (or about 270bhp). You’ll be able to take a closer look at Mahindra’s silent rocket at the Auto Expo.
Mahindra will not be showing the facelifted Scorpio at the Auto Expo, but instead there will be a near-production-ready version of the XUV500 with enhanced hybrid technology. Mahindra-owned SsangYong will also have a concept of its own in the form of the LIV-1. LIV is short for ‘Limitless Interface Vehicle’ and it gets a four-wheel drive system that’s controlled by an interface. The LIV-1 is big and bold and it could preview what the next Rexton will look like. Also headed for the Auto Expo is the Korando Tourismo MPV. While not the prettiest of vehicles, it’s got a grand total of 11 seats so it should manage to generate quite some interest.
