The Tiago EV sports subtle EV-specific styling like a blacked-out grille with a โ.EVโ badge, blue accents, and tri-arrow elements. Black mirrors, roof, and door handle inserts add a sporty touch. Though based on a 2016 design, its clean lines and proportions still look fresh. All variants get plastic wheel caps, not alloys.
The cabin features a dual-tone black and off-white theme with blue highlights, plus leatherette upholstery with blue stitching. The layout and controls mirror the ICE version but include EV-specific buttons and a rotary gear selector. The infotainment system feels dated, though the Harman audio system impresses. Front seats are snug; rear seats offer decent support but limited headroom. Crucially, floor height remains unchanged, and the boot still offers 240 litres. A spare tyre is replaced by a puncture repair kit.
Powered by a 75hp motor and 24kWh battery, the LR version delivers 114Nm torque. While this figure is modest, a shorter final drive and software tweaks help maintain usability. The car feels smooth and peppy in the city, though not outright fast. Two drive modes โ City and Sport โ let you prioritize efficiency or performance. 0-100kph takes 14.72 seconds, and top speed is 120kph. Steep hill starts require Sport mode to avoid rollback.
Three regenerative braking levels help optimize range. Level 0 is ideal for highways, while Level 3 is best for downhill driving. However, one-pedal driving isnโt possible. The real-world range in mixed conditions was 193km, against a claimed 315km. For daily use under 50km, two to three charges a week suffice. Charging via a 15A plug takes 9 hours (10โ100%), while a 25kW DC fast charger does it in about an hour.
Ride quality is a standout, with mature suspension that handles poor roads well. Light steering and compact dimensions make it ideal for city driving. Brakes are progressive but effective. The rotary drive selector feels sluggish during tight manoeuvres like U-turns and parking.
In addition to the basics, the 2022 Tata Tiago EV is equipped with premium kit like leatherette upholstery, 7-inch touchscreen, cruise control, auto headlamps and wipers, as well as an auto dimming inside mirror to lift its appeal.
With a strong blend of comfort, features, safety, and everyday usability, the Tiago EV makes EV ownership accessible. It's smooth, refined, and affordable, priced at Rs 8.49โ11.49 lakh (introductory). Even after a post-launch price bump, it remains a compelling deal, especially for urban buyers seeking a practical and eco-friendly option.

I want to buy an EV for around โน25-30 lakh. We already have a Tiago EV and Altroz petrol for family use. This car will be for daily commuting of around 80 to 100 km for work purposes and outstation family trips once a month. Home and office charging are possible, with a proper charging infrastructure available. I am confused between the Harrier EV and the XEV 9e. Please also suggest if any other option is available.
You already have a good mix in the family with the Tata Tiago EV for city duties and the Tata Altroz for regular use, so this new EV will clearly step up as your primary workhorse, covering 80 to 100km daily plus a proper outstation run once a month. With both home and office charging in place, youโre in the ideal situation to own a larger electric car.
Between the Tata Harrier EV and the Mahindra XEV 9e, we lean towards the 9e. It simply feels more sorted to drive. The ride and handling balance is better resolved, whereas the Harrier EV feels heavier and slightly top-heavy in comparison. That weight is noticeable, especially when changing direction or driving briskly.
Range is another important factor in your case. The Mahindra XEV 9e offers roughly 90 to 100km more real-world range than the Harrier EV, and that extra buffer makes a meaningful difference for your monthly highway trips. It reduces range anxiety and gives you more flexibility with charging stops.
If you are open to stretching within the segment, an even more compelling option is the Mahindra XEV 9S. It offers more equipment, more space and the added flexibility of a third row, which could be useful for family trips. The range is similar to the 9e, so youโre not compromising there. The only trade-off is that the ride is tuned on the softer side, and at highway speeds, there is a bit of vertical movement. Itโs not as tied-down as the 9e or even the Harrier EV, but itโs not a deal breaker either.
Given your usage pattern involving high daily running and regular highway trips, range, efficiency and overall driving polish matter most. For that reason, the XEV 9e is the more rounded choice between the two you shortlisted. If space and flexibility are higher on your priority list, the 9S would be our overall pick in this bracket.

Hello team, I am 55 years old and drive about 140 km daily in Delhi-Gurgaon traffic. I have been driving an Ertiga CNG for the last five months, and it is very difficult to handle the pressure of a manual transmission and daily CNG refilling. I am looking for an automatic vehicle that avoids daily refilling and is comfortable. My budget is around โน15 lakh. I am confused between an EV, a hybrid, or any other option. Kindly advise.
140km a day is a fair bit of running, and we can understand why the low running cost of CNG appealed to you. But as you say, CNG has its downsides, and queuing to fill it is one of them.
A hybrid is a good altenative but there is nothing available in your Rs 15 lakh budget. There are lots of good petrol and diesel automatics in the Rs. 15 lakh range, but the fuel cost would burn a hole in your pocket. An EV makes the most sense, and this is an opportune time to switch to one. They are the best automatics, and you will find EVs a joy to drive after dealing with the heavy clutch of your manual Maruti Ertiga.
We assume you can install a home charger, in which case your other bugbear of filling at a fuel station is eliminated. Your fuel station is effectively at home. And with the home charging, your electricity costs are low, which in turn makes your 140km drive extremely light on the pocket. The trouble is that there are not too many EVs around the Rs 15 lakh mark, but there are some good options.
The new Tata Punch EV is the best option, but it's a little tight in the back. However, since you drive yourself, this shouldnโt be an issue. A cheaper alternative, but not as nice to drive, is the Tata Tiago EV, a no-nonsense car with a lower range than the Punch. So, you will have to charge it every day.

I am looking for an automatic electric car under โน13 lakh. My daily commute is around 40km. Which EV should I buy?
There aren't too many electric cars below the Rs 13 lakh mark, just the MG Comet, the Tata Tiago EV, and the Tata Punch EV.
If you plan to keep your current Maruti Suzuki Celerio, the MG Comet will do well as an intra-city commuter and as a good second car. However, if you need this as a primary car, we would recommend the electric Tata Punch. The four doors make it more practical, and the larger wheels and better high-speed performance give you the flexibility to take it on small trips out of the city too.
You will get the medium range within your budget, but if you can stretch it, the long range would make good sense as a primary car.

My daily commute to work is around 90 km, and monthly driving is around 2,000โ2,500 km. The XL6 AMT is my only vehicle. I am confused about whether to go for an EV, a diesel, or CNG car. CNG has long waiting queues. My budget is โน10 lakh. My driving is partly in city traffic and partly on the ring road. Or should I switch to a bike? Please advise.
With a Rs 10 lakh budget, the Tata Tiago EV will be a good option for you. The Tiago EV is a smooth and sensible car, and its small footprint makes it adept for urban usage.
It gets a 24kWh battery and its real-world range is around 190km, twice as much as your daily usage. However, you will have to charge it almost daily to ensure there is more than sufficient range at all times. By charging the car at your home, the running costs of this EV will be similar to or even lower than those of a bike.
Alternatively, you could opt for a diesel Tata Altroz. It is a very fuel-efficient option, and even though the running costs will be higher than an EV, these will still be significantly lower than a similarly priced petrol car.

Unfortunately, no EV is available within a budget of Rs 7 lakh. You will have to extend your budget by at least 1-1.50 lakh to purchase the entry-level MG Comet or Tata Tiago EV.
The MG Comet is an excellent urban runabout, due to its tiny footprint, which makes it easy to manoeuvre and park. Occasionally, it can seat four passengers in relative comfort, with the only limiting factor being access to its rear seats due to its two-door layout. The Tata Tiago EV is relatively more conventional in its approach, and it drives a bit better than the Comet.
Also, it is the Tata Tiago EV, which will feel a bit more comfortable and confident for the occasional highway drives. Hence, if this is going to be your primary vehicle, we'd recommend the Tata Tiago EV for its well-roundedness.

Tata Punch EV is a better option for your usage. In our real-world range test, Punch EV Long Range delivered 229km with an efficiency of 6.54km/kWh. As you travel around 120 km a day, Punch EV LR will offer you more and a hassle-free ownership experience.
Tata Tiago EV has a real-world range of around 187 km (as tested by us), which is manageable, but will always be borderline for your usage. Punch EV's cabin is also more spacious and can carry more luggage compared to the Tiago EV. So, unless you are on a budget, you should go for the Tata Punch EV LR.

Hi, I am planning to buy an automatic car for my dad. He wants a small car that is easy to drive and park in Chennai traffic. I am considering the MG Comet. Is it a good option?
The MG Comet is a wonderful city runabout thanks to its small footprint, light steering and tight turning circle, good visibility, as well as smooth and adequately zippy electric motor. What's more is that it is surprisingly spacious to ferry 4 adults, should the need arise.
Moreover, with just two occupants on board, it also makes for an excellent car for the airport run (by folding the rear seats), as it can accommodate four large suitcases with ease. Yes, its ride comfort or audio system isn't as good as the Tata Tiago EV's, which is available at a similar price. But purely looking at it from a convenience and ease-of-use point of view, this MG car is an excellent secondary car.

Should I buy the Tiago EV or the Tiago automatic CNG? Which is the better option?
If you have frequent highway runs, the CNG Tata Tiago would be a good choice. In addition to the CNG tanks, the car also has its petrol tank, so your driving range and fuel flexibility are very good.
If your usage is primarily within the city, the Tiago EV makes more sense. The car is very silent and without a gear box is a very smooth and easy drive in the city. Moreover, you won't have to wait in long CNG lines, which are still an issue in some places. However, make sure you can charge at home or your place of work, as relying on a public charger is not feasible.

I am a first-time driver planning to buy an MG Comet for city use. Are there any other small automatic/electric vehicles that would be better than the Comet?
The MG Comet is a good option for a first-time driver. It is easy to drive, has a spacious cabin, despite being a two-door, and the electric powertrain is smooth and silent enough.
However, the 2-doors mean the Comet is not the most practical option in its segment, the boot is small, and the small tyres mean the ride can get choppy. If this is important to you, you could consider the Tata Tiago EV. Otherwise the Comet will do just fine.
