The Tata Sierra price starts from Rs 11.49 lakh to Rs 21.29 lakh (ex-showroom), with 24 variants on offer. Tata Motors launched the new Sierra on 25 November 2025, and it slots in the middle of the Curvv and Harrier SUVs in the homegrown carmakerโ€™s lineup.

The Tata Sierra mileage depends on the engine and transmission options. As per ARAI, the petrol variants offer a mileage of around 16โ€“18 kmpl, while the diesel variants deliver better fuel efficiency at approximately 18โ€“20 kmpl. The 1.5-litre engine choices are offered with the latest Sierra, namely an all-new direct-injection turbo petrol unit and its naturally aspirated derivative, as well as a diesel. Manual and automatic transmission options are available.

As with all Tata cars, the variant-wise Sierra features vary. It packs goodies like dual-tone 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with a full-width LED light bar on top, panoramic sunroof, flush-type door handles, a powered tailgate, segment-first three-screen setup: one for instrumentation and two for infotainment, Dolby Atmos, rear window sunshades, Boss mode functionality for the front passenger seat and more. A 360-degree camera setup, ABS, EBD and an ADAS suite are on offer too.

Tata Sierra Safety Rating:

The Sierra safety rating has yet to be revealed. However, the Sierra safety features include 6 airbags as standard, Level 2 ADAS, traction control, front and rear disc brakes, 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electronic parking brake with auto hold, hill hold assist, and more.

Key Highlights of the Tata Sierra:

  • The original, 3-door Sierra was discontinued in 2003.
  • 2026 Sierra debuts Tataโ€™s all-new 1.5L direct injection turbo-petrol engine.
  • Naturally aspirated 1.5L petrol and 1.5L diesel engine options also on offer.
  • Sierra car is positioned above the Curvv midsize SUV in Tataโ€™s line-up.
  • Sierra rivals are the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, and more.
  • A high-set bonnet, squarish wheel arches are a nod to the original SUV, just like the thick B-pillar, kink in the window line.
  • It skips the old Sierraโ€™s curved glass, but the blacked-out section between B- and C-pillars creates a similar visual effect.
  • Sierra feature list comprises LED light bars at the front and rear, 19-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, three-screen setup, 12-speaker JBL sound system, etc.

Tata Sierra expert review

Autocar score

We like

  • Refined turbo-petrol delivers strong performance

  • Excellent ride and handling

  • Big on desirability

We don't like

  • Diesel engine is noisy

  • Road and tyre noise filters through

The Sierra is a striking SUV that blends futuristic styling with nods to the original. The upright, boxy silhouette, blacked-out grille, high-set bonnet, squared-off arches, thick B-pillar and blacked-out rear glass recall the 1991 Sierra, while LED lightbars, slim LED headlamps, flush door handles and 19-inch alloys add modernity. Roof rails are bolted but not load-bearing, and a tailgate spoiler hides the rear wiper. Faux skid plates and gloss-black cladding look premium but the latter will be scratch-prone. Unlike the original, the spare tyre sits under the SUV, lowered via a boot-floor bolt. Six paint shades are offered, with Munnar Mist and Andaman Adventure among the standouts.
Underneath is Tataโ€™s new ARGOS architecture, compatible with ICE, CNG, hybrid, and FWD/AWD. The current Sierra is FWD. Measuring 4.3m long, 1.8m wide, 1.7m tall with a 2.7m wheelbase, itโ€™s the tallest and widest in its segment with the longest wheelbase.

This is Tataโ€™s best interior yet, with a modern design, premium materials, light dual-tone upholstery and a three-screen setup headlining the dash. The four-spoke steering (shared with Harrier/Safari) has an illuminated logo, though the horn pad feels intrusive. The touch-sensitive AC controls also come from larger Tatas.
The centre console has two levels: the lower section with cupholders and ports, the upper with the gear selector, wireless charger and armrest. Storage is ample, though the armrest bin is narrow and deep. New control stalks and window switches feel more premium than past Tata units.
Front seats are comfy with extendable under-thigh support and well-judged cushioning. Rear space is generous for three adults, with ample knee, shoulder and headroom. Rear passengers get window blinds, AC vents, USB ports, reclining backrest, boss mode, and a fold-down armrest. All three get adjustable head restraints and three-point seatbelts.
Boot space is 622 litres to the roof (450 litres to the parcel shelf), expanding to 1,257 litres with the rear seats down. A wide opening and low loading lip help, though wheel wells intrude slightly and the electric tailgate needs more clearance.

The top Sierra Accomplished+ gets ventilated seats, powered driverโ€™s seat, connected tech, wireless Android Auto/CarPlay, auto-dimming IRVM, rear sunshades, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof and more. The 12-speaker JBL Black system with subwoofer, soundbar, Dolby Atmos and 13 modes is superb.
Higher variants get three screens โ€“ a 10.25-inch digital cluster and two 12.3-inch Samsung OLED touchscreens. Theyโ€™re crisp, slick and easy to use, though the passenger screen lacks a privacy filter. Lower variants get two screens plus a heads-up display.
Safety kit includes 6 airbags, ESC, traction control, 360-camera, all-disc brakes, hill-hold and an ADAS suite with AEB, LKA, cross traffic alert and adaptive cruise control. Crash tests are pending, though Tata claims it targets a 5-star rating.

Engine options include a new 1.5-litre NA petrol (106hp, 145Nm), a 160hp/255Nm turbo-petrol (6-speed Aisin auto) and a 1.5-litre diesel (118hp/260โ€“280Nm with 6-speed manual/auto). We sampled the turbo-petrol and diesel.
The new turbo-petrol is the pick of the range, offering excellent refinement, minimal turbo lag and linear power delivery. It does 0โ€“100kph in 10.09sec, quicker than the Creta N Line. Rolling acceleration is strong, and the Aisin auto shifts smoothly, if not quickly.
The diesel is noisier with noticeable vibrations and a linear, not punchy, midrange, but it excels on highways. It does 0โ€“100kph in 12.87sec. Both autos keep the engines in their ideal powerbands. Road and tyre noise are noticeable on both. Braking is strong though the petrolโ€™s pedal travel feels long.

Official fuel efficiency figures arenโ€™t out yet and weโ€™re yet to subject it to our real-world fuel efficiency tests.

Top variants get frequency-dependent dampers that work well. The Sierra feels tough and composed over broken roads, with some low-speed firmness but excellent absorption at higher speeds. Off-road ability is aided by 205mm clearance and terrain modes (Normal, Wet, Rough). Body roll is controlled, steering is light but predictable, and grip is strong, making it fun in the twisties.

Prices start at โ‚น11.50 lakh for petrol, โ‚น13 lakh for diesel and โ‚น18 lakh for turbo-petrol, and should top out around โ‚น20 lakh. Despite some downsidesโ€”noisy diesel, road/tyre noise and a few nitpicksโ€”the Sierraโ€™s strengths shine: a long features list, refined turbo-petrol, spacious cabin and sorted dynamics, wrapped in nostalgic, standout styling.

Trending Questions on Tata Sierra - Answered by Autocar Experts

P
Asked by: Pramod Kumaron Mar 11, 2026

I am planning to upgrade from Baleno to either the Sierra, Thar Roxx or 7XO. My driving would be 70% city and 30% highway. Please advise me on the best pick.

The Tata Sierra is the most practical option for you. It has a spacious cabin, a comfortable ride, and a punchy petrol engine. What helps its case in the city, especially compared to the other two, is the compact dimensions that make it easy to park and manage in traffic. The turbo-petrol engine with the DCT would be our recommendation as the naturally aspirated version lacks performance. The automatic gearbox is smooth, the engine is refined, and the ride comfort is excellent. It is also fresh on the inside with the latest tech and features.
However, if you have a big family and a third row is a must, the Mahindra XUV 7XO is a good option. It has a strong and refined petrol engine, and it also has a comfy ride. But you will have to manage its size in the city, and it will not be as easy as the Sierra.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx is not as comfortable as the Tata Sierra or the XUV 7XO. It has a lot of character in its design, but lacks the plush ride of the Sierra and the premiumness of the 7XO. If you don't venture off the tarmac or don't do much off-roading, best to avoid the Roxx. The Sierra would be a good fit overall.

Asked by: Nanoon Mar 11, 2026

I am looking for an upgrade. Does it make sense to buy the 3XO, coming from a Honda City? Please suggest. (Also open to other options)

If an upgrade necessarily means a larger car for you, the Mahindra 3XO won't be the right move after a Honda City. You'd be best served by midsized SUVs, which measure between 4.3 and 4.5m. Of the current crop of mid-sized SUVs, the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and Tata Sierra are the best-rounded. The new-gen Renault Duster that launches on March 17 also has promise.
If vehicle size isn't a dealbreaker, the Mahindra XUV 3XO is a good pick. It's got powerful petrol engines, feels solid, and ride and handling are also impressive. The interior is also spacious for what is a compact SUV, and higher-spec versions pack in loads of equipment too. In fact, a fully-loaded 3XO is better equipped than a fully-loaded City.
Within the compact SUV segment, you could also consider the Hyundai Venue, which is a well-rounded package.
N
Asked by: Nanoon Mar 8, 2026

I am confused between the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX5 and Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 variants, as I prefer practicality over extra features. Alternatively, should I consider waiting for the Tata Sierra?

If you don't mind the additional spend, we'd recommend the Mahindra XUV 7XO in AX7 trim. Elements like its larger 18-inch alloy wheels and leatherette upholstery add greatly to the look and feel of things. While auto climate control, a 540-degree camera and front parking sensors are features you will appreciate every day.

The Tata Sierra is not a like-for-like alternative to the Mahindra 7XO. The 7XO is larger, more powerful and also offers three rows of seating.

Further, the 7XO is slightly pricier, too. Within Tata's range, the Tata Safari is an alternative to the 7XO.

Hi Autocar expert.. I am planning to buy new car it will be my 1st car. My budget would be around 25 Lakhs. I have a confused between Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra and Toyota Hyryder. Want to opt for top end automatic transmission. Also help me which engine should I go for petrol/diesel? My montly run would be around 200-300kms roughly not daily use tho.

With your limited running, a petrol-engined vehicle would be advisable. Since you are looking at a top-end automatic version, the Tata Sierra and Kia Seltos are both good options. The Hyryder is good, but it is the oldest of this trio and you wonโ€™t see much benefit from its hybrid system with your limited running.

Between the Sierra and the Seltos, it depends on where your priorities lie. Both offer refined and powerful 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines, but the Sierra uses a six-speed torque converter gearbox, which is smoother in the city, while the Seltos uses a 7-speed DCT that is quicker to shift but can sometimes hesitate in traffic. The Sierra is the pricier of the two but also has the roomier cabin and more features.

It is worth noting that Tataโ€™s service experience can be hit or miss, while Kiaโ€™s is generally regarded as among the best in the segment. If the roomier cabin, features and the sheer road presence the Sierra offers are important to you, then it is the one to have. But if service experience is a priority, then the Seltos is the safer bet. However, before deciding, do take a test drive of both SUVs.

Hi , my daily usage is 60 km within city apart from this monthly 200 km short trip and yearly twice 1000kms trip currently owning a nexon diesel xz+P. Automatic. Looking for bigger than this with fun to drive experience and comfort seating with decent millage

If you are satisfied with the Tata experience, you could consider the Tata Sierra. As your usage is on the higher side and you already use a diesel Nexon, we would recommend going for the 1.5-litre diesel with the six-speed torque converter automatic.

The Sierra is roomier than the Nexon and offers the comfortable seating you are looking for, yet it isnโ€™t so large as to become a chore on your long city commute. The diesel engine is grunty for both city and highway use, and the automatic gearbox shifts smoothly. The ride and handling balance is also excellent, making it a very enjoyable SUV to drive.

A mid-spec Adventure+ comes with all the necessities, along with features like a panoramic sunroof and a 360-degree camera. Importantly, it also gets a reclining rear seat and a thigh-support extension for the front seats, both of which improve seating comfort. Do take a test drive before committing to buying.

I am confused between sierra tgdi and thar roxx. My driving is 80pc highway 20 pc city. Main requirements are automatic and ample space in car. It should be fun to drive.

Both these are very compelling SUVs that score high on desirability and road presence, as well as on interior space, but also do things very differently from one another. The Thar Roxx has the larger and more powerful engines which, combined with its aggressively calibrated automatic gearboxes, delivery strong and instantaneous performance.

The downside, however, is that fuel economy takes a huge nosedive, which might be an annoyance on your long highway journeys. Moreover, the engines are not very refined and can feel a little too highly strung when you aren't driving quickly. And finally, while it is fun to drive in off-road and perhaps dirt-road conditions, it feels relatively large and cumbersome on tarmac, thanks in part to its ladder-frame construction.

The Tata Sierra T-GDi, then, proves to be the better choice for you overall, as its monocoque chassis and sharper steering make it a lot more fun on the road. While not quite as powerful as the Mahindra, its 160hp turbo-petrol has more than enough punch and its 6-speed automatic is smooth too. It's also the more comfortable and fuel-efficient of the two by far, which should help on your highway drives.

With a budget of 25L, I'm looking for a 5-seater car. It should be fun to drive and provide a comfortable ride. Safety, reliability and after sales service should be too-notch. I'll be driving this 60% in city and 40% on highways. It should also have a good interior and features including ventilated seats, wireless carplay/android auto, panaromic sunroof, 360 degree camera.

With a budget of around Rs 25 lakh and your priorities of fun to drive performance, comfort, safety and strong after sales support, the Kia Seltos fits your requirements very well. The current Seltos is larger than before, spacious and very comfortable for daily driving. Interior quality is among the best in the segment and it comes loaded with premium features, including the ones you have mentioned such as ventilated seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof and a 360 degree camera. The 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine paired with the 7 speed DCT transmission offers strong performance while remaining refined and smooth in city use. It also fits comfortably within your budget and Kiaโ€™s after sales service network is generally reliable.

If you want something different, the Tata Sierra with the turbo petrol automatic is another good option. It offers even more cabin space than the Seltos and its wider body makes it a more comfortable five seater. The ride quality is also very comfortable and it comes with all the features you are looking for. The downside is that it is about Rs 1.5 lakh more expensive than the Kia, and although Tataโ€™s after sales service is improving, Kia still has the stronger reputation in that area.

If you want something larger, you can also consider the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 within your budget. Even though it is a seven seater, with the third row folded it becomes a very spacious and comfortable five seater. It gets a powerful 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine producing over 200 hp paired with a smooth six speed torque converter automatic that delivers effortless performance. The handling is good, the ride is comfortable and it comes with most of the features you want. The only notable omission compared to your list is ventilated front seats. If you can live without that feature, it is another strong option to consider.

Can you help me buy a new car? My budget is Rs. 24-25 lakh, and if I have to choose between Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, and MG Hector, which one should I opt for? I prefer the top-end automatic model. Should I go for a petrol engine or a diesel?

If you want peace of mind, ownership, and a well-rounded package, the Kia Seltos is the easiest recommendation. Regardless of which engine you choose, it delivers a satisfying experience. The 1.5 turbo petrol is great if you enjoy strong performance, especially on highways. The 1.5 naturally aspirated petrol with the CVT automatic is smooth and relaxed, making it ideal for city driving. And if you have high running, particularly on highways, the diesel option is refined and efficient. On top of all this, the Seltos feels premium inside, offers good space and comfort for four adults and is very competitively priced.
If you are considering the Tata Sierra, the turbo-petrol would be the better engine choice. It is refined, punchy and enjoyable to drive. The diesel also performs well but is not as refined as the Kia diesel unit, while the naturally aspirated petrol can feel underpowered, particularly in fast moving traffic or on highways.
In terms of space, the Sierra actually has an advantage over the Seltos. Its wider body gives it a more comfortable five-seat layout, and the seats and suspension make it a good long distance cruiser.
The MG Hector still offers excellent value, especially after the recent update that added more features and competitive pricing. It offers a phenomenal rear seat space and comfort, which makes it a good choice if the car will often be chauffeur-driven. However, it is not as engaging to drive as the Seltos or the Sierra.

Hi, I currently own a Virtus GT 1.5 DSG, which I bought around three years back. I am looking to buy an SUV in the next few months, and under โ‚น20 lakh. My running is a maximum of 200km in a month. 90% of my travel is within the city.

For your limited usage, most of which is in the city, a petrol automatic SUV makes the most sense. There are several options within your budget, but the new Kia Seltos and the Tata Sierra stand out.
The Kia Seltos HTX with 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and DCT combination sits within your price range and comes with features like ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a power-adjustable driverโ€™s seat and a Bose sound system.
The Tata Sierra Adventure+ with the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and automatic is an alternative, though it is slightly more expensive than the Seltos. It comes with features like a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera and a reclining rear seat.
Do take a test drive of both before you decide.

I am confused between the Sierra diesel and the Seltos NA petrol MT. I want to buy a safe car. Seltos looks good and is good to drive. Will Seltos score 5 stars in safety as they use the K3 platform?

The new Kia Seltos hasn't been crash-tested yet, but it is built on a newer, reinforced K3 platform and gets a plethora of safety features, so it is likely to score higher than the outgoing version.
What adds to the confidence is that the smaller, more affordable Kia Syros (built on a reinforced K1 platform) has scored a 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP tests, hence it is possible that this new-gen Seltos achieves a similar feat. Although we'll have to wait for the final outcome when it is actually crash tested. Interestingly, the Sierra hasn't been crash tested either.
The Tata Sierra is more spacious than the Seltos (particularly at the rear), and it feels like a tough SUV. However, a similarly-equipped Tata Sierra Diesel MT is much more expensive than a Kia Seltos NA Petrol MT. Besides being more affordable, the Seltos is smooth, refined and with light controls, it is a touch easier to drive. Hence, between the two, we'd pick the Seltos.
