I want to buy a new premium 5-seater car with a budget of around โน30 lakh. Mileage is also important to me. My average running is about 1,000 km per month.
There aren't any sedans or for that matter too many other vehicles at the Rs 30 lakh mark today. Your best options would be to look at an SUV like the Tata Safari, or if you are open to an electric car, you could check out the Mahindra XEV 9e or the upcoming Mahindra XEV 9S, which would give you more of that premium feel you want.

I want to buy a new car with a budget of โน25 lakh. Iโm torn between the Tata Safari and the Mahindra XUV700. Many online reviews recommend the XUV700, but Iโve heard a new version is due next year. Is it sensible to buy the XUV700 now? This would be my first SUV; I currently own a Baleno.
It would be worthwhile to wait for the Mahindra XUV700 facelift, which is coming early next year, as it will be getting a big upgrade, especially in terms of features and tech. It is expected to retain its wide selection of variants, which includes 5-, 6- and 7-seat versions, petrol and diesel, manual and automatic, as well as 2WD and AWD.
In your budget, you should be able to find something in the middle of the range. This is a big reason why it is preferred over the Tata Safari, which currently only comes in 6- and 7-seat guises, and only with a diesel engine, and is a little more expensive than the Mahindra, spec for spec.
However, the Tata Safari petrol version is due for a launch in December 2025, with a 170hp, 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, which should provide more choice to buyers, and could be worth considering. However, there will still be no AWD version.

Hi team, I purchased a Tata Nexon Creative+S (manual) 2023 model in December 2024 due to discounts. I recently drove the AMT variant of the Nexon (top-end) from Ooty to Masinagudi and back, and completely fell in love with the ease of driving it. Now I only want an automatic. I want to upgrade my vehicle and, with the advent of the Sierra, new Seltos, new 7XO, and the petrol Adventure+ Safari, what should I choose? Mostly the city use and highway once a month.
Since you are familiar and happy with your Tata Nexon, it's probably a good idea to stick with Tata Motors and check out the new Tata Sierra, which is launching tomorrow. It is a size and segment up on the Nexon, so it should feel like a considerable upgrade. This Tata car is also expected to come with larger 1.5-litre petrol engines, naturally aspirated and turbocharged, although the 1.5-litre diesel engine is expected to be the same.
The Mahindra XUV700 or XUV 7XO facelift is expected to gain a lot of tech from the XEV 9e and 9s, including a triple-screen infotainment system, but that aside, it should largely be the same.
Similarly, the Tata Safari petrol will gain the same 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine as the Sierra, but should otherwise be the same.
The new Kia Seltos is, for now, an unknown quantity, but it is expected to grow in size, as well as tech, which also likely means a jump in price. Hence, given most of your usage is in the city, we recommend going with the Sierra, as it will be a big enough upgrade without having to get an overly large SUV.

I'm looking to buy an SUV (petrol or diesel) with strong road presence, good fuel mileage, and low maintenance. My budget is around โน25 lakh. I'm also open to a quality used model (post-2023) with under 20,000 km. Can you recommend options?
The Mahindra XUV700 is a reliable and well-packaged SUV that is strong on road presence, has a good amount of equipment and a strong set of powertrains. Both, the petrol and diesel engines are strong, and while the diesel is more efficient, check if your annual mileage is above 15-20,000km. The Tata Harrier/Safari have a stronger road presence but are not as reliable or efficient as the Mahindra.

Should I choose a diesel or petrol engine if I select an SUV like the XUV700 or Safari automatic?
Currently, the Tata Safari does not offer a petrol engine; however, that will change next month. Regarding your query, it really depends on what you want out of your car.
A petrol automatic Mahindra XUV700 will be refined and very peppy to drive; however, the fuel efficiency will be very low, expect a single-digit figure in the city. This is where the diesel option is better. In our opinion, the diesel engine in the Mahindra SUVs is refined enough and in our opinion the better all rounder offering a good mix of performance, refinement and efficiency.

Weโre a family of four planning to buy a 7-seater automatic within a โน20โ25 lakh budget. Our priorities are a 5-star safety rating, essential safety features and possibly ADAS (though weโre unsure how relevant ADAS is on Indian roads). Usage will be city driving, weekly ~200 km runs, and 5โ10 long trips a year. Weโre confused between the Mahindra XUV700, Toyota Rumion and Kia Carens because of concerns about XUV700โs service, Carensโ safety rating, and Rumion being similar to the Ertiga. Which should we pick?
Given your requirements, you should choose between the Mahindra XUV700 and the Tata Safari. Both three-row SUVs come with a full, 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP, both come featured-packed, and both get ADAS tech as well.
Both SUVs will also be comfy for your family on highway trips, but the Mahindra car will be a bit easier to drive in the city thanks to its lighter controls. And unlike the Tata Safari, the Mahindra XUV700 can also be had with a petrol engine, and it comes with an AWD option.

Purely as a seven-seater, the Tata Safari is the comfier option, with good space for adults in all three rows. The Mahindra XUV700 comes second in terms of space, but it feels smoother and more refined than the Safari.

I need a 7-seater SUV, and my budget is around โน20 lakh. Should I go for the Toyota Innova Crysta or the Tata Safari?
At a โน20 lakh budget, youโll only be able to afford the entry-level Tata Safari, while the base Toyota Innova Crysta would cost a few lakhs more. If that stretch is manageable, the Innova Crysta is worth it for its proven reliability and excellent long-distance comfort.
However, if youโre looking for better value, the Kia Carens Clavis is worth considering. Itโs not as large or powerful as the Tata or Toyota car, but it offers nearly as much seating space, more equipment, and an overall higher-spec package for the price.

Iโm planning to upgrade from my Renault Kiger AMT. I drive up to 10,000 km/year and have a โน30-35 lakh budget (can stretch by โน5 lakh). I want a powerful 6-7 seater automatic with ADAS, sunroof, and excellent ride comfort. It will be used mostly in the city with a few long trips each year. I also want a strong road presence. Which models should I consider?
The Mahindra XUV700 is the only option that's powerful, gets ADAS, has 6-7 seats and offers excellent ride comfort. A Tata Safari is also available at this price point, which is great on road presence and has a comfier third row; however, its diesel engine isn't quite as refined as the Mahindra's.
