The Tata Altroz price in India starts from โ‚น6.30 lakh, and rises to โ‚น10.51 lakh (ex-showroom), with 22 variants on offer. The Altroz is one of the most popular hatchbacks in India. Tata Altroz rivals include the Hyundai i20Maruti Baleno and Toyota Glanza.

The Tata Altroz mileage is 27.8 km/kg. The Hatchback is sold with petrol and diesel engine options. The Tata Altroz diesel has a 1.5-litre engine, while the petrol version comes with a 1.2-litre motor. It also gets a CNG powertrain. Depending on the variant, DCT, Manual, AMT are on offer with the Tata Altroz. Altroz CNG, however, is only available with a manual transmission. Altroz petrol variants make 88hp, 115Nm, while the Altroz diesel models generate 90hp, 200Nm. Altroz CNG produces 74hp, 103Nm.

With the 2025 facelift, Tata has given the Altroz car a thoroughly revised front end, with new full-LED split headlights with updated signatures for the DRL, a new grille design with layered rectangular elements and connected tail-lights. Altroz interior lifts several features from the Tata Nexon and Curvv, like 10.25-inch all-digital instrument cluster and automatic AC controls. The new Tata Altroz boasts a full 5-star rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests.

Tata Altroz Key Highlights:

  • Altroz is the only diesel hatchback in India
  • Altroz facelift gets flush-fitting door handles, new 16-inch alloy wheels
  • Altroz top model has a longer list of features than the previous model
  • Facelifted Altroz interior has a new 10.25-inch digital driverโ€™s display
  • It also gets a Tata Curvv SUV-like two-spoke steering wheel
  • New AMT option has been introduced with the Altroz petrol
  • 6 airbags, ESP are standard Altroz safety features

Tata Altroz Safety Rating

The Tata Altroz safety rating was announced in September 2025. At the Bharat NCAP, the Tata Altroz safety rating comprised 5 stars. Right from the base model, the Altroz hatchback comes equipped with six airbags, ABS, ESC and 3-point seatbelts for all passengers. Higher variants add a 360-degree camera, a blind-spot monitor and a tyre-pressure monitoring

Tata Altroz expert review

Autocar score
7

We like

  • Absorbent suspension delivers great ride comfort

  • Class-leading features

  • Upgraded interior ambience

We don't like

  • No turbo-petrol option

  • Road, wind and engine noise can get disturbing

The 2025 Tata Altroz facelift builds on the originalโ€™s sharp silhouette with thoughtful changes rather than a radical overhaul. Upfront, a slimmer grille with a larger Tata badge and reprofiled bumper give it a fresher face, while slim LED daytime running lights and repositioned foglamps improve presence without being showy.

From the side, the Altroz retains its wedge stance and bold proportions. Changes are subtle โ€” new alloy designs and refreshed tail-lamp graphics โ€” but they sharpen the overall look. The standout remains the floating roof effect and sculpted beltline which keep the hatch feeling dynamic.

Mechanically, there are no surprises: the same torsion beam rear suspension and MacPherson front setup remain. The Altroz continues to prioritise ride composure and everyday stability over outright sportiness.

Inside, the facelift focuses on refinement. Materials feel more polished, and the overall cabin ambience is quieter and more cohesive. While some hard plastics still persist, fit and finish have improved, especially around touchpoints like the door pads and centre console.

Front occupants enjoy supportive seats with good bolstering, and visibility is reassuringly airy thanks to upright glass and slim pillars. Rear passengers find generous knee and headroom for this segment, and the square boot opening makes loading luggage easier where space is respectable.

The Altroz facelift continues with the familiar 1.2-litre Revotron petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. The petrol feels eager in urban traffic but runs out of puff when pushed hard, while refinement is solid at low speeds. The diesel delivers stronger midrange grunt โ€” a boon for highway cruising โ€” but NVH rises more noticeably under hard acceleration.

Both engines pair with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT. The gearbox calibrations remain predictable, though occasional hesitation is present during sharp throttle changes โ€” a quirk carried over from the outgoing car.

Fuel economy sits where expected for this class. In mixed driving, the petrol Altroz returns good real-world figures that keep running costs in check, while the diesel consistently delivers excellent economy on highways. The AMT drivetrains help optimise efficiency, particularly in city traffic, though some shifts can feel reluctant.

Ride quality remains a strong point. The Altroz soaks up urban imperfections with poise, and composure over mid-speed undulations is assured. Body control in corners leans toward safety rather than sharpness, reinforcing confidence for everyday drivers rather than enthusiasts.

Steering is nicely weighted, with good feedback at moderate speeds and acceptable accuracy on the highway. However, high-speed inputs are met with the expected front-wheel-drive looseness rather than taut precision.

Tata has packed the Altroz facelift with a strong feature set. A larger 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay leads the list, complemented by a digital instrument cluster, rear AC vents, ambient lighting, wireless charging and connected-car tech.

Safety equipment remains segment-leading: dual airbags come standard across variants, with higher trims adding four more, along with ABS, EBD and ISOFIX mounts. Stability control is available on upper grades, reinforcing Tataโ€™s commitment to safety.

The Altroz facelift is priced keenly within its premium hatchback segment. Against rivals, it undercuts more expensive rivals while offering a strong blend of design, features and efficiency. The added refinement and tech upgrades enhance appeal without significant price escalation, making it a compelling choice for buyers seeking a practical yet modern hatchback.

Asked by: Veluchamy Pon Mar 20, 2026

Dear Autocar Team, I am currently using a Tata Altroz XT Petrol (2022). Due to my height (6.2 feet), I am required to push the driver's seat to its maximum extent, which results in restricted visibility on the right side while driving. I am now planning to purchase a new car, and after comparing options such as Nexon, XUV 3XO, and Hyundai Venue, I have shortlisted the Kia Sonet HTK(O) Diesel (Manual), as it appears to offer good value for money. However, I have some concerns regarding rear seat space and overall driving comfort for my height. In this regard, I request your expert advice on whether this would be a suitable choice, or if there are better alternatives available within an on-road budget of โ‚น12 lakhs. My usage is predominantly city driving (around 70%), with occasional highway travel (approximately 30%). Most of the time I drive alone, and occasionally with my wife. I would greatly appreciate your guidance and recommendations. Thanking you in advance.

While the Kia Sonet Diesel HTK (O) is a good value-for-money car, it may not be the best choice for your height. At 6.2 feet, you will likely have to push the seat all the way back, just like in your Tata Altroz. In that position, the Sonetโ€™s cabin can feel a bit tight, and visibility issues may still persist. Also, once the driver's seat is pushed fully back, the rear seat space becomes quite limited, which may not be ideal even for occasional use.
Instead, we would suggest looking at the Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel. It offers a wider cabin and more driver space, which will make a noticeable difference for your height. Even with the seat pushed all the way back, there is still usable space in the rear, making it a more practical choice overall. The wide cabin also makes it a genuine 5-seater, unlike many compact SUVs.
The diesel engine is punchy and enjoyable to drive, and it works well for both city and highway usage. It feels strong in the mid-range, which makes overtaking easier and driving more effortless. The only real drawback is the boot space, which is on the smaller side compared to rivals, especially for larger luggage . If you frequently travel with a lot of bags, this is something you should keep in mind.

Hello Autocar Team, I am planning to buy an automatic car with an on-road budget of โ‚น12 lakh in Coimbatore. Around 80% of my driving will be in the city, and this car will be driven by a new license holder. I would prefer to avoid AMT gearboxes and am looking for a car that offers good safety and a smooth driving experience. I am not interested in sedans. Could you please suggest the best options for my requirements?

For your requirements of a smooth, automatic, premium feel and ease of driving, we would first suggest considering the Hyundai i20 IVT. The CVT gearbox is very smooth, which makes it the easiest car to drive in city traffic, especially for a new driver. It also feels premium inside, well-equipped and well priced, making it a great first car. Hyundaiโ€™s after-sales service and ease of maintenance are also strong positives.

That said, in terms of safety, the i20 scored a 3-star rating earlier, and the facelifted version hasnโ€™t been tested yet, so that remains a bit of an unknown.

If 5-star safety is your top priority, then you can consider the Tata Altroz DCA. It has a strong build and better safety credentials. The ride quality is also more comfortable, and the car feels more stable on the highway.

However, the engine and gearbox are not as refined or as smooth as the Hyundai's, though it is still a better experience than an AMT.

I'm a beginner driver and about to buy my first car. I'm confused between Altroz and Punch, and also confused between petrol and CNG. My daily commute is 55km, 90% highway for one year; later, short trips with family. Budget is โ‚น9 lakh OTR maximum. Also, does Altroz Pure diesel make sense for my use case?

Between the Altroz and Punch, we would suggest going for the Tata Altroz. It is a larger car and will feel nicer to drive on the highway, which suits your current usage of 55 km daily, with 90% highway driving, much better. The Tata Punch is easier to drive thanks to its higher seating position, but on highways, the Altroz feels more planted and confidence-inspiring.
On the question of petrol vs CNG, considering your running of around 1,600 km per month, CNG can help reduce running costs. However, a year later, when your usage shifts to occasional family trips, the compromised boot space and lower performance can start to feel limiting. If you want a simpler ownership experience with better performance, the petrol makes more sense.
As for the Altroz diesel, it can work well for your current high running and will feel more effortless on the highway. But since your usage is expected to reduce to short family trips later, diesel may not be the best long-term fit.

Planning to buy an automatic hatchback under โ‚น11 lakh. Please advise which is the best in terms of ride, mileage, smoothness, etc.

There's actually quite a variety of automatic hatchbacks within your budget. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno and its twin, the Toyota Glanza, are well-rounded products. Good ride comfort and excellent fuel economy are highlights, and the AMT gearbox is good enough for average driving. However, gearshifts aren't the smoothest, and you'll feel this over a quick overtaking manoeuvre.
If you are open to the Citroen brand, the C3 is a great option. Its 1.2-litre engine and torque converter auto gearbox combo is excellent, and ride comfort is also very good.
You could also look at the Tata Altroz DCA in Creative S trim. The dual-clutch auto gearbox is very smooth and well-suited to city use. There's also a toughness to the package that gives great confidence at highway speeds.
We are also fans of the smooth and polished Hyundai i20 CVT, but the Sportz(O) that fits your budget isn't an ideal choice as it misses out on the safety of a rear wiper.
Finally, if you have the option to install an EV charger at home or office, the Tata Tiago EV is also an option to consider. Being all-electric, it's super smooth and very refined. However, it works best as a city car.

I am planning to buy a car around โ‚น11 lakhs. I prefer top-end variants with automatic transmission. I tried Hyundai AMT, which I didn't like at all because of the jerks in gear shifts. Currently, I have a 2022 Venue Top End, so coming from DCT, AMT seems so sluggish. Please suggest some good options.

The Honda Amaze CVT is a good pick for you. Its CVT gearbox is smooth and delivers a pleasant driving experience, superior to what you'd get with AMTs in the same price band. The Amaze CVT in fully-loaded VX form fits your budget and is worth a look.

You could also look at the Tata Altroz DCT in Accomplished S trim. It's well equipped and, while performance is unexciting, the gearbox is very smooth.

Other options we'd recommend considering include the Nissan Magnite CVT, Renault Kiger CVT and Hyundai i20 CVT. Do note, their top-end versions are pricier than Rs 11 lakh.

i am confused between tata altroz and tata punch . please give me advice.

If you compare them directly, the Tata Altroz offers more value for money. Both the Altroz and the Tata Punch are similarly priced and equipped, but the Altroz is a larger hatchback. It feels wider inside and offers a greater sense of space, which makes it more comfortable for passengers.

Another advantage of the Altroz is the choice of automatic gearboxes. While the Punch only offers a basic AMT automatic, the Altroz comes with AMT in the lower variants and also a DCT automatic in the higher variants, which delivers a far more polished and smoother driving experience.

However, the 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine used in both cars is best suited for city driving. On highways it can feel a bit underpowered, especially when overtaking or carrying a full load. This is where the Punch now has an advantage. With the latest update, it is available with a turbo petrol engine as well, which offers stronger performance. Interestingly, this turbo engine was earlier available on the Altroz before its facelift but is not offered on the current version.

Iโ€™m planning to buy the Hyundai i20 N Line N8 Manual. My monthly travel will be under 500 km. Will this car be economical in terms of maintenance costs and mileage? Also, should I wait for the upcoming i20 facelift or go ahead with the current model? Finally, should I choose the i20 N Line, or are there better alternatives I should consider? Please suggest.

The Hyundai i20 N Line is the sportiest hatchback for the money. It is powered by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that's zippy, and its 6-speed manual transmission is slick in operation. Moreover, the N Line drives well and certainly feels more special than anything else in the market.
As far as maintenance costs go, the i20 N Line is likely to be slightly more expensive than the standard i20 petrol, but the difference should not be significant. In terms of fuel efficiency, the i20 N Line is likely to return around 10-12 kpl in the city and 15-17 kpl on the highway.
Sure, the N Line is a bit pricey, but it is more of an emotional buy. If you love to drive, go for it. However, if you are trying to rationalise this purchase, there are more affordable and more fuel-efficient, equally (if not more) practical hatchbacks that are cheaper to maintain, such as the Maruti Baleno/Toyota Glanza, Tata Altroz, or even the standard i20 petrol.

I want to buy an EV for around โ‚น25-30 lakh. We already have a Tiago EV and Altroz petrol for family use. This car will be for daily commuting of around 80 to 100 km for work purposes and outstation family trips once a month. Home and office charging are possible, with a proper charging infrastructure available. I am confused between the Harrier EV and the XEV 9e. Please also suggest if any other option is available.

You already have a good mix in the family with the Tata Tiago EV for city duties and the Tata Altroz for regular use, so this new EV will clearly step up as your primary workhorse, covering 80 to 100km daily plus a proper outstation run once a month. With both home and office charging in place, youโ€™re in the ideal situation to own a larger electric car.
Between the Tata Harrier EV and the Mahindra XEV 9e, we lean towards the 9e. It simply feels more sorted to drive. The ride and handling balance is better resolved, whereas the Harrier EV feels heavier and slightly top-heavy in comparison. That weight is noticeable, especially when changing direction or driving briskly.
Range is another important factor in your case. The Mahindra XEV 9e offers roughly 90 to 100km more real-world range than the Harrier EV, and that extra buffer makes a meaningful difference for your monthly highway trips. It reduces range anxiety and gives you more flexibility with charging stops.
If you are open to stretching within the segment, an even more compelling option is the Mahindra XEV 9S. It offers more equipment, more space and the added flexibility of a third row, which could be useful for family trips. The range is similar to the 9e, so youโ€™re not compromising there. The only trade-off is that the ride is tuned on the softer side, and at highway speeds, there is a bit of vertical movement. Itโ€™s not as tied-down as the 9e or even the Harrier EV, but itโ€™s not a deal breaker either.
Given your usage pattern involving high daily running and regular highway trips, range, efficiency and overall driving polish matter most. For that reason, the XEV 9e is the more rounded choice between the two you shortlisted. If space and flexibility are higher on your priority list, the 9S would be our overall pick in this bracket.

I have a Kwid and want to upgrade to a premium hatchback. My budget is โ‚น10 lakh. I want a safe, feature-rich car - Iโ€™m not worried much about mileage or performance, but I want comfort and standard safety features. Please suggest the best option.

Since safety is a high priority for you, check out the Tata Altroz, which has scored a 5-star Bharat NCAP crash test rating. It's just as well that mileage and performance aren't high priorities for you, as neither are strong points for the Altroz.

Both these improve considerably if you choose the 1.5-litre diesel variant - but then there's a big price jump for this as well. However, even if you choose the petrol, for your budget of Rs 10 lakh, you will get a mid-spec variant of the Altroz only.

If you want a bit more bang for your buck, consider the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, which has scored a 4-star Bharat NCAP rating, but still gets all the expected safety features. In your budget, you can get a fully-loaded petrol model, and overall, the Baleno scores higher than the Altroz on space, comfort, mileage, performance and maintenance.

I am planning to buy a new car which will be my first car, with a budget of โ‚น9 lakh to โ‚น11 lakh maximum. Can you please suggest the best variant in terms of fuel efficiency, ride experience, safety, and value for money?

You can consider the Tata Altroz. While it may not be as fuel-efficient as something like a Maruti Swift, it is efficient enough, and if driven well, it should get you low double-digit real figure KPL figures in the city.

Moreover, its ride quality is very good, and it soaks up road imperfections with ease and while always retaining good control. In terms of safety, there's a host of features like 6 airbags and ESP standard, as well as a 5-star BNCAP crash rating. Within your budget, you should get the higher-end petrol variant, and you would thus enjoy some nice-to-have features too. We would say the 'Creative' variant would do you well.
