I want to buy a sedan and I’m deciding between the Honda City automatic and the Skoda Slavia automatic. Which one should I choose?

The Honda City has some inherent strengths. It's got a responsive 121hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine and a smooth CVT automatic gearbox that make it a great city car; the rear seat comfort is excellent, and it also comes with the peace of mind associated with Honda ownership. The City is a sedan you can’t go wrong with, and it’s the more level-headed buy.

The Skoda Slavia has a lively 115hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, quick-shifting 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, and crisp handling, making it the more engaging car to drive. It also comes better equipped and does well for itself on rear seat comfort, too. The Skoda also has the tougher build, the plusher ride and superior refinement.

In our city and highway test loops, the Honda City mileage for the CVT variant stands at 12kpl and 16.4kpl, respectively, clearly outperforming the Slavia mileage, which delivers 10.5kpl and 13.4kpl.

In terms of warranty, the Slavia comes with a standard four-year or 1,00,000km plan, while the City gets you three years/unlimited km warranty. In conclusion, go for the Honda City if you want rear seat comfort and will drive mainly in city confines, and opt for the Skoda Slavia if you prioritise driving pleasure. I've been a proud owner of Polo MPI for the last 6 years, now my polo's been gone for Total loss, and I'm looking over three options over here. Skoda Kylaq Prestige AT, since VW Terra is yet to be launched, Mahindra XUV 3XO DIESEL with some bells and whistles (AT not a concern since there is AMT), and Kia Sonet HTK+ diesel + (don't know the cost or Gearbox I'll be getting here). We are a family of four. My daily office commute is 60-70 km. Quarterly 2000 kms to hometown and back. Pls suggest.

If you enjoyed your Volkswagen Polo, you will really like the Skoda Kylaq. It's got the same solid build and sturdy character as the Polo. The Kylaq's turbo-petrol engine is strong and the 6-speed gearbox smooth, and will make everyday drives enjoyable. Do note, rear seat space is decent but not the class best. Also, fuel economy will be significantly lower than the diesel options you have shortlisted.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO offers more passenger space than the Kylaq (but less luggage room), and its diesel engine is well-suited to highway running. We'd avoid the AMT, which can feel jerky.

The Kia Sonet diesel-manual is a nice option, but it offers the least cabin space.

Hi Team, I’m looking for a robust car that can handle Bengaluru’s potholes and worsening traffic. My daily drive is 12-15km, mostly stop-start city driving, with occasional highway trips. The car must be safe on highways, deliver good city mileage, and have great driving dynamics. Apple CarPlay/Android Auto is essential. I’m considering the Tata Altroz (concerned about after-sales), Skoda Kylaq (mileage concern), Volkswagen Virtus/Skoda Slavia, Citroen C3 Aircross X, and the upcoming Dacia Duster. Should I wait for Ford’s return, or do you suggest another option? I plan to keep the car for 5 to 8 years. Thanks!

Of the cars you’ve listed, the Skoda Kylaq fits your requirements best. It’s tough, offers good ground clearance, and is compact enough to handle Bengaluru traffic easily while delivering excellent driving dynamics. Mileage might be a concern, but with VW Group’s TSI engines, careful driving can significantly improve efficiency. Plus, if you’re looking for an automatic, this Volkswagen car’s 6-speed AT is eager and smooth.
The new Renault Duster’s powertrain details will be revealed on January 26, 2026, if you’re open to waiting. As for Ford, if and when it does return, it will unlikely be with mass-market products in this segment like the Ecosport or Figo.

I currently own a 2021 Renault Kwid and want to upgrade to a petrol automatic car with a top-end variant that includes all features. My budget is around ₹17 lakh. Please suggest suitable options.

If you can stretch your budget slightly by around ₹20,000, the HX10 1.0 Turbo Petrol DCT variant of the newly launched Hyundai Venue is an excellent choice. This Hyundai car offers a good mix of features, space, comfort, practicality, a premium cabin, and an overall refined driving experience.
Another option worth considering is the Skoda Kylaq in its top variant, the Prestige AT. This Skoda car falls well within your budget, is enjoyable to drive and offers ample space to seat four people comfortably.

I drive 20-30km on weekends within the city with my family of four. My budget is ₹20-50 lakh. I want a smooth, reliable, self-driven car with luxurious interiors and a wow factor for my teenage kids. I prefer petrol vehicles and am slightly averse to EVs due to reports of battery issues and fire hazards. Suggest to me which SUV or car I should go for, considering there’s less innovation in the latter segment?

The Skoda Kodiaq is a great choice given your budget and requirements. It is a luxury SUV with a high-quality interior and all the features you would expect in a luxury car.
The petrol engine is smooth, and it offers excellent performance in the city and on the highways. The cabin is spacious, the ride is comfy, and as a package, this Skoda car is extremely appealing.

I'm new to driving and 5'2" tall. I want an SUV within a ₹12–14 lakh budget with strong safety features, a comfortable driving experience, and low maintenance. I'll mainly use it for office commuting and occasional weekend or monthly long drives. Should I choose the Skoda Kylaq Signature AMT or the new Hyundai Venue Turbo Edition?

Both your shortlisted cars are good options and are quite closely matched. The Skoda Kylaq AT has the advantage of driving pleasure and engagement, which will serve you well on your weekend or monthly long drives. However, considering the majority of your driving is in the city for your office commute, the lighter-to-drive Venue Turbo DCT is probably the better bet, and likely has lower overall maintenance too. Test drive both and see which you prefer.

Is the Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXI+ AT a good option? My running is 50 km daily in the city, and once a month, I take a 500+ km outstation trip.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza, the ZXI+ AT variant, is a well-rounded model that scores high on comfort and practicality. Ride comfort is one of its highlights, and the automatic gearbox is smooth. However, performance isn’t particularly exciting, something to keep in mind if you value strong highway performance.
If that’s the case, you could also consider the Mahindra XUV 3XO or the Skoda Kylaq.

Hi. I want to purchase a compact SUV. I usually drive 40-50km a day. Don't know whether to choose the Skoda Kylaq Signature or the Hyundai Venue HX5 - and whether the Turbo option in the latter is a good bet?

Both are excellent compact SUVs with potent and punchy 1.0 direct-injection turbocharged petrol engines. However, which one you choose depends on your preference, and there are pros and cons to each.
Comparing purely engines, the Hyundai is slightly smoother, though the Skoda has more punch, despite its lower power figure on paper. Assuming you choose the manual gearbox, both are smooth shifters with light clutches.
If you choose the automatics, the Skoda's 6-speed torque converter AT is smoother overall than the Hyundai's 7-speed DCT, but it can feel overly eager moving off from a standstill.
On features, both are well equipped and represent good value, though overall, the Hyundai has more. The Hyundai Venue is lighter and easier to drive, but the Skoda Kylaq is more engaging and fun. The Skoda has the slight edge on ride comfort, in case that is a priority.

I’m looking for a car for my dad. He’s a sedate driver, with daily usage of around 20-30 km and occasional highway trips. Annual running may be around 10,000 km. I want an automatic SUV with decent mileage. I’ve shortlisted the Tata Nexon Pure Plus AMT and the Skoda Kylaq Signature AT. Which would be the better choice? If not these, what would you recommend?

Of the two options you have shortlisted, the Skoda Kylaq is the one we'd recommend. It has a smoother automatic gearbox, which your dad will appreciate. Do note, the Kylaq's rear seat isn't as spacious as the Tata Nexon's, in case that is a requirement for you.
If you don't mind increasing your budget, the ideal fit for your father would be the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, the VXI AT variant. It's got a smooth gearbox, comfortable ride quality, and a practical interior. Fuel efficiency is decent, and performance is adequate.

I currently own three cars: a Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid, a Nexon EV, and a 2015 Honda City diesel. I plan to sell the City and buy a new 7-seater SUV. My budget is ₹50 lakh. Which SUV do you suggest? Options I'm considering or willing to wait for include MG Majestor, Hyundai Palisade, Skoda Kodiaq, Fortuner, and BMW X1. Which SUV do you recommend?

The best choice in this segment is the Skoda Kodiaq. The Hyundai Palisade is a good SUV, but it is only expected to come in 2028, and even that could shift.
The Skoda car will offer everything you want in one package. Kodiaq is luxurious, has a comfy ride, a strong engine, and the cabin is quite spacious, too. The Skoda Kodiaq would be our strong recommendation.
