My wife is 4'10" and is looking for an AMT car for city use (โ‰ˆ600 km/month) in the sub-4-metre segment. Our budget is up to โ‚น12 lakh on-road. Please suggest suitable models.

There are multiple sub-4m automatic options within your budget.

The Citroen C3 AT is a great product. It's got an elevated seating position which your wife will appreciate. The highlight of the C3 is its engine-gearbox combination. The 1.2-litre engine is peppy and works really well with the smooth 6-speed automatic gearbox. Citroen doesn't have a large service network, but you should not have an issue if you live in a big city.

If your wife is comfortable with a larger feeling vehicle (within sub-4m), the options to consider include automatic versions of the Skoda Kylaq and Mahindra XUV 3XO, and CVT versions of the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.

Iโ€™m planning to buy my first car and have a โ‚น10 lakh budget. Iโ€™ve shortlisted the Renault Kiger (CVT). What are the pros and cons of the Kiger CVT, and are there any better CVT options within this budget?

The Renault Kiger with the CVT is a good choice as it has a well-equipped cabin and looks upmarket and new-age. The pros are its design, SUV road presence, good ground clearance, tech and equipment and punch power delivery. The cons are weak fuel efficiency, the touchscreen resolution and cabin insulation. That said, as an overall package and a first car, it is a good choice.

Please suggest a good sub-4m car with a CVT gearbox, a four-cylinder engine, and high ground clearance. It will mainly be used for city driving with occasional highway trips.

The Honda Amaze is the only option with a four-cylinder engine and a CVT gearbox. It is smooth and has Honda's reknowned reliability and enough ground clearance despite being a sedan.
However, if you must have an SUV, you will have to stick to the 3-cylinder engines. The Renault Kiger is a good city car that gets a feature-rich cabin, new-age design, and good ground clearance. The turbo-petrol engine in this Renault car is powerful, and the smooth CVT gearbox is great for the city.

I have booked the Tata Punch Adventure+ AMT (on-road ~ โ‚น 8.5 L in Hyderabad). Iโ€™m wondering if there are other good SUVs (or mini-SUVs) from other brands with AMT / automated manual transmission that offer good mileage and are reliable. What would you recommend?

There are a few more sub-compact AMT SUVs, just like the Tata Punch, that suit your requirement within the same budget. The closest competitor is the Hyundai Exter, which also comes with a 1.2 petrol engine and an AMT gearbox. Plus, it is known to offer better real-world mileage and is arguably more reliable overall than the Tata Punch. You could also consider the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite, which offer larger and more spacious cabins, although they are slightly more expensive too.

I want to upgrade from my Wagon R. I mostly drive in the city, rarely take outstation trips, and have a tight budget of around โ‚น8 lakh. Please suggest some good options.

Without knowing more of your requirements, it is hard to suggest the ideal car. However, given your comfort with the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, you should consider a car with high seating. Of the options within your budget, the Tata Punch, Hyundai Exter, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger are worth checking out.

Asked by: Vikram Shahon Nov 5, 2025

Iโ€™m planning to buy a car and have shortlisted the following options: Renault Kiger Emotion Turbo CVT, Mahindra XUV 3XO MX2 Pro AT, Toyota Taisor S Plus AMT, Tata Curvv Smart, Tata Nexon Pure Plus AMT, Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXi, and Maruti Suzuki Fronx Delta Plus Opt AMT. My budget is โ‚น11 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). I prefer an automatic over manual and will mostly drive in the city. A good service network is also important.

The Renault Kiger, in its Emotion Turbo CVT variant, is a good city car since its CVT gearbox offers smoother performance than any AMT. However, Maruti Suzuki cars deliver better fuel efficiency for city use than any other manufacturer.
Between the Fronx AMT and the Brezza AT, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza would be the better pick. Itโ€™s smoother, more spacious, and backed by a strong service network.

I drive a Hyundai Grand i10 and cover around 60 km daily in the city, with occasional highway runs. Iโ€™m considering the Renault Kiger as an upgrade. How is it in terms of comfort, mileage, and long-term reliability? Would you recommend Renault based on long-term ownership reviews and maintenance costs?

The Renault Kiger is a good package of design, features, and space, and is a good upgrade from the Grand i10. However, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine isn't the most efficient and will deliver efficiency similar to that of the Hyundai Grand i10.
It is stable on the highways, and the ride quality is comfortable, too. Its long-term reliability is also on par with rivals, and while the service network is not as widespread as Hyundai's, it has enough touchpoints around the country.

I am 62 years old and want to buy an automatic car. My monthly driving will be around 500 km, and my budget is โ‚น7โ€“8 lakhs. Please suggest which car I should go for.

For your requirements, you could consider the Renault Kiger Evolution Petrol AMT or the Nissan Magnite Acenta 1.0 Petrol AMT. These are both the same SUV under the skin, and as such share the same mechanical parts - engine, gearbox, chassis, suspension and more. They both offer great space and comfort at the price, and are excellent value for money. If you can extend your budget slightly, you can get more features too. Choosing between the two comes down to which features you prefer, as they differ slightly between cars, which car's look you prefer, and which brand has a sales and service outlet close to you.

My budget is โ‚น10 lakh. Should I consider the Honda Amaze or go for a compact SUV? My driving is 65% city and 35% highway.

The Honda Amaze is a well-rounded compact sedan with a roomy cabin and smooth engine. However, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire is a better choice in the segment as it is a bit more comfortable and efficient.
If you prefer an SUV instead, the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite will give you the most for your money along with a spacious cabin and the SUV stance and extra ground clearance.

Iโ€™ve just learned to drive 20 days ago at a driving school and need an automatic car for commuting in Bengaluru traffic, around 40 km per day. My maximum budget is โ‚น10 lakh (on-road). The roads are very bad, and thereโ€™s a waterlogging issue. Iโ€™m not an enthusiast, just looking for a practical car.

Weโ€™d recommend shortlisting the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and Tata Punch. All three offer good ground clearance and well-tuned suspension setups that handle rough roads around your area.
All three automatics are automated manual (AMT); however, if you can stretch your budget just over the 10 lakh mark, you can have the Magnite and Kiger with a much smoother CVT automatic and a more powerful turbo petrol engine too.
