I want to buy a new car for my parents, who are first-time drivers, so an automatic is a must. We live near a highway, so most driving will be highway or short village-to-town runs. I want a hatchback with low maintenance and easy driving for beginners. My budget is up to โน10 lakh. Iโve shortlisted the Maruti Swift 2024 ZXI AMT - what do you think?
While the Maruti Swift ZXI AMT is a good choice, we would recommend the Maruti Suzuki Baleno AMT Alpha, which costs a similar amount. The Baleno's engine feels stronger and will be more suited to highway driving. Like the Swift, the Baleno is also easy and cheap to maintain and delivers good fuel economy.
Also worth looking at is the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.2 AMT. It has the same engine as the Baleno, but what makes it worth considering for your parents is its higher seating and elevated driving position. Getting in and out of the car is easy and the large glass area makes visibility very good. Also, the high seating also gives confidence when driving on the highway.

Iโm a first-time car buyer, and my budget is โน7-8 lakh. Iโm a doctor and still learning to drive, so the car will likely take its share of bumps and scratches. I want a vehicle thatโs reliable, easy to maintain, offers good safety, and comfortable for years to come. Also, should I buy a manual or automatic? And people are telling me that Tataโs service backup is poor - is it true?
If you are not very confident behind the wheel, we would recommend you spend some time with a reputable driving school, as you would want to eliminate small accidents and scrapes as far as possible. As for your query of a manual or automatic, a manual would be better in terms of mastering skills and having flexibility in terms of driving different cars. However, if you do not feel confident, its ok to stick with automatics as there are plenty of choices available today at all price points. In terms of a choice of car, we would suggest you look at the Tata Punch is easy to drive with its compact dimensions and offers a slightly higher seating point, offering you a better vantage point. Tata's service is inconsistent around the country, and if your local dealer isn't known for good service, you could consider the Maruti Wagon R.

I currently own a Maruti Wagon R. Now Iโm interested in buying a CNG or hybrid car under a โน10 lakh budget. I generally commute within the city with an average monthly drive of 500 km. Kindly suggest the best car that suits my requirements.
Given that you are comfortable with a Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, itโs advisable to stick to a vehicle with a high driving position. The Tata Punch CNG and Hyundai Exter CNG are good options within your budget.

We currently have a 2011 Hyundai i10 Sportz AT that my mother uses for office travel. Weโre looking to replace it with another automatic car, preferably a hatchback, within a โน10 lakh budget. Our usage is around 600km per month, mostly within the city. Our main priorities are fuel efficiency, ease of driving within the city, good features, and easy ingress and egress for senior citizens. Please suggest suitable options.
Given that the car will be primarily used by your mother, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is an easy car to recommend. Its height makes it easy to get into and out of, visibility is excellent, and it's generally a friendly city car. Good fuel economy is a given, and the AMT gearbox is decent for average city use. Opt for the 1.2 AGS that is well within your budget.
If you are open to trying a Citroen, you could also consider the Citroen C3 Turbo AT. While it's just out of your budget, its slick engine and gearbox make it worth a look.

Iโm a first-time car buyer with a family of four. I drive only in the city, and usage is very low. Since parking space is small, Chennaiโs city and street roads are narrow and often flood, Iโm thinking of going for a lower-segment automatic car like the Alto K10. Will it better serve my purpose, be safer, and more economical?
The Maruti Alto K10 AMT is a good choice if narrow roads and tight parking are issues you need to consider. However, given that you are a family of 4, it makes sense to consider a Maruti Wagon R. While it is larger than the Alto K10, it is still manageable in size. The biggest advantage of the Wagon R is space. The cabin is very spacious, which is something your family will appreciate.

I like the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R for its easy ingress and egress. Which other cars offer a similar seating height, a 1.2-litre engine, and comparable mileage?
Thanks to its tall boy design, ingress and egress to the cabin is very easy in the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R. Other alternatives with an elevated seating position and a 1.2-litre engine include micro SUVs like the Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch.

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R offers exceptional cabin room for its size, but performance, especially on the CNG models, is mediocre. The Tata Punch CNG is a better all-rounder offering more performance.

Since this is your first car, a hatchback makes sense due to its compact size and ease of use. In your budget, consider the Maruti Suzuki Celerio or the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R.
