Engine options include a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol unit producing 68hp and 91Nm, or a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol unit producing 91hp and 114Nm. Both engines get the option of an MT and an AMT gearbox. Additionally, the 1.0-litre engine can also be had in CNG-spec, where it produces 57hp and 82Nm.
On the equipment front, the Wagon R FFV ZXI+ 1.2 comes with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 4-speaker sound system, alloy wheels, electrically adjustable and retractable ORVMs, manual AC, remote keyless entry and 60:40 rear split/folding seats.

The Wagon R shares its Heartect platform with several other Maruti Suzuki models such as the Ertiga, Baleno and Swift. At its price point, the Wagon R rivals the Celerio from Maruti’s own stable, as well as other entry-level hatchbacks like the Citroen C3 and the Tata Tiago.

Exterior Design And Engineering

The third-gen Maruti Suzuki Wagon R maintains its signature tall-boy stance while growing in size. It is 56mm longer, 125mm wider, and comes with a 35mm longer wheelbase. Yet it’s lighter, with even the top-spec 1.2 ZXI AGS weighing just 845kg. It looks more substantial too, thanks to a rounded nose, sculpted sides, and stylish elements like ‘arrow’-shaped headlamps and a blacked-out C-pillar that lends it a floating-roof look. However, lift-type door handles, the absence of alloy wheels as standard, and exposed wheel wells remind you of its budget roots.

Interior Space And Comfort
8
Upright seating and generous headroom make the cabin airy and accessible. The dashboard's two-tone theme and improved textures boost its appeal, but the disjointed dash layout and flat seats leave room for improvement. Fixed front and rear headrests compromise comfort and visibility. However, the cabin is roomier now, comfortably seating three at the back with better legroom. Boot space has doubled to 341 litres, and features like 60:40 split seats and ample storage throughout the cabin make it even more practical. A lack of a smartphone slot and rubberised storage pads are minor irritants.

Performance And Refinement

The Wagon R’s uprated 1.2-litre engine transforms it into a far livelier car. Compared to the previous 1.0, it accelerates briskly, with strong mid-range performance and a near-100hp/ton power-to-weight ratio. Acceleration benchmarks show vast improvement—0-100kph in just 11.98 seconds. However, the engine gets noisy past 5,000rpm, and the light manual gearbox could be less rubbery and slicker. The 5-speed AMT, needs to be smoother, but if you have to have an automatic, it does the job.

Mileage / Range And Efficiency

Efficiency is a Wagon R hallmark. The 1.0-litre petrol delivers 24.35 km/l (MT) and 25.19 km/l (AMT), while the 1.2-litre variant manages 23.56 km/l (MT) and 24.43 km/l (AMT). The 1.0-litre S-CNG impresses further with 33.47 km/kg, making it one of the most economical hatchbacks in its class.

Ride Comfort And Handling
7
Thanks to a stiffer platform and wider track, the Wagon R feels more planted than before. Ride quality is noticeably more mature over rough roads, though high-speed composure is still average, and the light steering doesn’t inspire confidence. That said, urban comfort and suspension refinement, what important here, are improved.

Features And Safety

The Wagon R introduces Maruti’s 7.0-inch SmartPlay Studio system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and remote operation via app. Steering-mounted controls are now included, while safety kit—like rear parking sensors, ABS, and dual airbags on higher trims—is standard across the range. However, the body shell could be stronger for added crash safety and there are no rear headrests to protect passengers against whiplash.

Value For Money
8
Now more refined, powerful, and practical, the 2025 Wagon R remains a strong value proposition. It may not excite enthusiasts, but its spaciousness, fuel economy, and ease of use make it a smart budget pick. Prices start at Rs 5.54 lakh for the 1.0 LXi and Rs 5.99 lakh for the 1.2 VXi (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Wagon R is a best option for a mini 5 seater car. Space is very good and average is also good.

I drive elevate CVT since last 2 years. It is the best option if you are looking for NA motor. Company has already added few new features like 360, ambience light and few more. Note the service is no more cheaper as I paid 17k for 20k kms service.

As an owner, I find the driving dynamics and steering feedback to be the best in the segment. The cabin is spacious, and it has the best naturally aspirated engine in the segment. Factory fitted Alpine speakers are good, though they don't get much recognition. The AC performance is one of the best in class. However, the CVT is smooth but not suitable for aggressive drivers. Tyre noise can be annoying on bad roads. Under thigh support and overall seat comfort are not the best in the segment. The Alpine infotainment system disconnects when transitioning from 4G to 5G, though some improvement was made with a software update. The back row middle hump makes it comfortable for only two people in the rear seat. Must-have features like TPMS are sold as accessories. My experience with the Honda service centre was not great.
The Maruti Wagon R has always been known for its efficiency and affordable running costs, and it remains true for the third-gen model as well. The Maruti Wagon R mileage is impressive across all its engine options, making it one of the most fuel-efficient cars on sale.
The base 1.0-litre engine is the most efficient of the range, offering a mileage of 24.35kpl with the MT gearbox and 25.19kpl with AMT. Meanwhile, the 1.2-litre engine returns a mileage of 23.56kpl with the manual and 24.43kpl with the AMT. The Wagon R CNG variant has an ARAI-claimed mileage of 33.47km/kg. Flex fuel Wagon R mileage is yet to be revealed.

What is the X-factor of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R?
The Maruti Wagon R’s spacious cabin and easy-to-drive nature are its X-factors. Even after its small form, it can seat 3 average-sized people comfortably on the rear bench. With its 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engines, it also offers an easy driving experience.
Should you buy the flex-fuel Wagon R Bioflex over the petrol Wagon R?
The Wagon R Bioflex is Rs 86,000 pricier than the Wagon R ZXi 1.2P MT. The E85 fuel is around Rs 20 (19 percent) more affordable than E20 fuel. But in our E20 vs E85 fuel mileage test with the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, we found that E85 fuel was 24.40 less fuel efficient. So, for now, the regular petrol variants offer more value-for-money.
Should the Maruti Wagon R be your first car?
The Maruti Wagin R is a practical car that offers a lot of space inside, a large 341-litre boot space and is fairly comfortable for taller passengers too. The driving experience is also relaxed, making it one of those cars that can be recommended to first-time car buyers.
Can the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R be a comfortable car for 5 people?
The Maruti Suzuki, on all seats, offers good headroom, legroom and under-thigh support, even for passengers over 6 feet in height. At the rear row, the width of the hatchback allows 3 average-sized people to sit comfortably.
How is the headlight performance of the Maruti Wagon R?
The Wagon R comes with halogen headlights and fog lamps. While the fog lamps are not bright enough, the headlights are effective. The headlight beam is spread wide and low, and although it does not offer LED-like strong illumination, it is still bright on all roads.
