My weekly commute is around 500 km, solo, and 95% of my driving is on highways. I want a car that offers both power and fuel efficiency. My budget is ₹10 lakh.

The Tata Altroz diesel manual would be a good choice as it fits your budget and offers decent power for highway use, along with good efficiency. If you prefer an SUV, the Mahindra Bolero Neo is also a solid option.

I currently own a Ford Figo Titanium TDCi, which I love. However, it’s now 11 years old, so I’m planning to buy a new automatic SUV with good power. Most of my drives are on highways, and my budget is around ₹20 lakh.

Since your Figo is a diesel and most of your driving is on highways, we assume you’d like to continue with diesel. The Mahindra Scorpio N comes with a powerful 2.2-litre diesel engine and is a great highway car. However, at your budget you'll only get a low-spec model, and its tough, ladder frame construction, while great on the highway, has its disadvantages around town.
A better-equipped and more refined option at the same price is the Kia Seltos, which is also quite fun to drive.

I currently own a 2017 Ford Aspire diesel. I drive about 30 km daily and have a budget of ₹15 lakh. I’m looking for a car with good fuel economy and a 1.5-litre diesel engine.

Finding a diesel car more efficient than your current 1.5-litre engine will be difficult, especially in the BS6 era. You can consider the Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel manual, which offers a good balance of efficiency and performance. It’s enjoyable to drive, and its wide cabin ensures comfortable seating for five. The only drawback is its small boot by segment standards. If you want an automatic, it’s available only with a basic AMT.
For a diesel automatic, the best choice would be the Kia Sonet HTX variant, which pairs the 1.5-litre diesel engine with a smooth-shifting 6-speed torque converter.

I want to buy an SUV (petrol or diesel, manual) with a budget of ₹18–20 lakh. My average running is 1,200–1,400 km per month, mostly in the city with occasional long drives. Mileage is important. I’m confused between the Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV700, and Hyundai Creta — can you suggest which one to pick, or recommend better options?

Since good fuel economy is a key consideration for you, a diesel will fit your needs better.

Among your options, the Mahindra XUV700 diesel is the most well-rounded choice. Its diesel engine is smooth and powerful. The XUV700 mileage is 17kpl for the manual diesel engine, which is fair for an SUV of this size.

The Hyundai Creta is smaller, and its diesel engine is less powerful. Creta mileage is 21.8kpl for the manual diesel; therefore, fuel economy will be significantly better than the XUV700's in case your decision entirely hinges on fuel economy.

We are a retired couple looking to buy a new SUV that is safe and offers a very comfortable back seat. Our daily commute is around 35 km a day. Our budget is ₹25 lakh. Kindly suggest some choices for us. Thank you.

Given your requirement for good rear seat comfort, you could consider the MG Hector. It is a spacious SUV and scores well on rear seat comfort. However, fuel economy on the petrol version is poor.
Other options worth looking at include the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

My family has grown since I bought my first car, a Hyundai Elite i20 Asta CVT. Now we’re six members: me, my wife, two kids, and two elders. We need two cars: one primarily driven by me and one for my wife. Our daily commute totals about 50 km across both vehicles, mostly within the city on highway-like routes. We also take 4-5 trips a year with the whole family. The combined budget for both cars is ₹50–55 lakh. I’m currently considering the Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus and waiting for the Mahindra XEV 7e (electric for experience & cost).

The Volkswagen Virtus GT is a fun choice, but being a sedan, getting in and out might not be the most convenient for the elderly. The Volkswagen Taigun GT offers a similar driving experience with the added advantage of higher seating.
As for the Mahindra XEV 7e, we’re yet to drive it, but if it’s similar to the XEV 9e, it should be a compelling package. We’ll be driving the XEV 7e soon, so stay tuned for our full review.

My monthly running is approximately 2,000 km, with 70% on highways and 30% in the city. Twice a year, I also take long drives to hilly areas and other regions around NCR, covering about 1,000 km per trip. Please suggest the best car within a budget of ₹17 lakh. I’m considering diesel or CNG options. Should I choose the Creta, Seltos, Grand Vitara, Victoris, XUV 3XO, Nexon, Sonet, or Brezza?

Since most of your running is on highways and you often take long drives to hilly areas, opting for a diesel makes sense. Among the compact SUVs you’ve listed, the Mahindra XUV 3XO is a strong choice thanks to its punchy diesel engine, spacious cabin, and extensive feature list.
However, if you frequently go on road trips, you might find its boot space limited. The larger Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos offer more practicality, though, within your budget, you’ll have to choose from their lower variants.

Hi Team, I’m planning to buy a new car under ₹12 lakh (on-road) as it will be my first car, and it should comfortably seat five members. My daily drive includes 2–3 office commutes per week (about 20 km round trip), weekend drives twice a month (100–200 km), and a quarterly home trip covering about 2,000 km round trip. My priorities are: 1. Build quality 2. Comfort and features (I like features) 3. Mileage (preferably diesel) Please suggest three cars that suit my needs.

You can get the top-spec Tata Altroz diesel for around ₹12 lakh on-road. It meets all your requirements for strong build quality, good features, and impressive mileage. An entry or mid-spec Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel will also fit your budget, though you’ll have to compromise on several premium features available in the higher variants.
You can also consider the base Kia Syros diesel, which offers all the essential features and is a well-rounded package.

My running is around 2,500 to 3,000 kilometres every month. I currently drive an i20 CRDi diesel and have covered 3,70,000 kilometres over the last 15 years. Which would be a better choice for me, a strong hybrid or an electric vehicle? Should I wait a little longer for better models?

An electric vehicle will prove to be far more economical for you if you primarily plan to charge it at home. Most new-age EVs like the Mahindra BE6, Hyundai Creta EV and Tata Harrier EV can comfortably handle highway trips of around 300–400 km on a single charge. So yes, if you have access to home charging, an EV would be the better choice for you.
