Looking to buy a vehicle for city use with a daily running of 40-50 km and a budget below 20 lakhs. My top priority is back seat comfort, as it will be chauffeur-driven since my wife doesnโt drive. Vehicle safety is also a top priority. I am open to any body style. Kindly suggest.

I currently own a 2015 Hyundai i10 Sportz (IRDE2) with 40,000 km on the clock. After 10 years I want to upgrade to a petrol SUV (budget under โน15 lakh). I prefer a non-turbo petrol car with cruise control, automatic climate control, rear defogger, ORVM indicators, and LED lights. My driving is mostly city with occasional highway trips. Hello Team Autocar, I currently own a 2007 Maruti SX4 (manual) and want to upgrade to an automatic car within โน25 lakh on-road (Bangalore). My driving is 90% city, so I need a smooth, reliable, and comfortable car for family use. Must-haves: 360ยฐ camera (for my dad), panoramic sunroof (for my mom), and light-coloured interiors. I also enjoy driving and care about performance, but Iโm unsure whether to choose a turbo-petrol DCT (performance) or stick with NA / IVT / torque-converter AT for long-term reliability. Which automatic options would you recommend and why?

Hi, I drive between Pune and Mumbai at least 16 times a month, with a monthly running of around 5,000 km. I was exploring an EV like the 9e or the Harrier for this kind of usage, but I still want to consider alternative options, maybe a hybrid or a diesel. What would you suggest? Iโm okay with a budget of 25-30 lakh.
If you are comfortable with an EV and have easy access to charging, the electric options are sure worth a look. Your running costs will be lowest with an electric car. The Tata Harrier EV and Mahindra XEV 9e are good options within your budget. We did find the Mahindra XEV 9e to be the more complete package. Among diesel options, the Mahindra XUV 700 AT is a good buy for your needs. It's got a strong diesel engine, a smooth auto gearbox and is generally a good highway car. While it's not as punchy as the XUV 700, the engine-gearbox combo is really good and fuel economy is a highlight.

My monthly driving is about 500 km in the city and around 3,000 km on the highway every alternate 3 months. I want to buy an SUV and am considering the Toyota Hyryder, Grand Vitara and Hyundai Creta. Budget is up to โน25 lakh. Please suggest one.
The Hyundai Creta is a well-rounded SUV that is strong on space, comfort and features. Since your monthly driving isn't all that much, and annual coverage of under 15,000km, a petrol variant will be a better buy.

Iโm looking for a new automatic car (not AMT) that can seat five adults comfortably. Both my wife and I will drive it. I want good build quality, visibility, active safety features, usable boot space, reasonable maintenance costs and comfort for daily use and highway trips. I donโt care about features like a sunroof or multi-speaker audio. Budget is โน15 lakh. Preference is an SUV like the Honda Elevate, but Iโm open to sedans. Suggestions?
The Honda Elevate is a good pick for you. It's a no-nonsense SUV that delivers on the very aspects you value. It's built tough, offers good visibility and has a large boot. Everyday comfort is good, and the robust suspension shines on bad roads. It's got safety essentials, though versions with ADAS are only offered on pricier variants.
The 1.5-litre petrol engine will run trouble-free for years, but do note the CVT auto performs best in easy-going driving. Aggressive driving or quick overtakes will lead to a disproportionate rise in revs and engine noise levels. The Elevate is, in general, noisier than some direct rivals. Also, while there's loads of room for four passengers to sit in comfort, a fifth could be a bit of a squeeze.
In case you find space insufficient for your requirements, you could consider the Creta IVT EX(O). While it is out of your budget at around Rs 16 lakh (on-road), the Hyundai Creta does feel larger, has a roomier cabin and also a slicker (and quieter) engine-gearbox combination.

The Hyundai Creta is a larger, more spacious car, and its 1.5-petrol IVT combination is much smoother than the Hyundai Venue Turbo-DCT combination.
In the real world, the Creta naturally aspirated petrol is likely to be more efficient than the Venue's turbo too. Yes, you will have to miss some modern features in the mid-spec Creta, which the top-spec Venue gets.
But on the whole, the Creta is a better car, and one that you must opt for.

Iโve been driving a Grand i10 Nios for the past 5 years. I want to upgrade to a Jeep Compass for its space and premium feel, especially since our family is growing from 4 to 5 (three children, all under 5 years). Is this a good decision, or should I consider alternatives like the Creta, Hyryder hybrid, or other models? My daily office commute is ~30 km, with little to no traffic, and I occasionally take long trips of over 600 km every alternate month.
The Jeep Compass is a very well-built and tough SUV, and also very good off-road; however, it is now quite old and rear space is not very good. This could be a problem with your family growing, as you have said.
You would be better off with a Hyundai Creta, which is a good all-round SUV, spacious, well-equipped and with good engine options. If you are concerned about fuel efficiency, then opt for the Toyota Hyryder strong hybrid as the fuel efficiency will be much better.
Just bear in mind that luggage space is compromised with the battery being placed in the boot; this could be an issue if you carry a lot of luggage on your weekend trips.
