Cars between ₹30–₹40 lakh in India (15)

Hi, I have been driving a Hyundai i20 Diesel as my personal car, and we have a Toyota Fortuner for family use. Now, over the next 3 to 4 months, I am planning to upgrade my i20 to an EV for my daily commute. My budget is around Rs 30 lakh. My top priorities are performance, cabin comfort, and good ride quality. Please suggest a good 5-seater EV. I was waiting to check out the Skoda Elroq and Mahindra BE 07, but it seems their launches will involve a wait. Is it still worth waiting given my requirements, or can you suggest currently available EV models from any reliable brand?

Hi Autocar, I currently own a Swift ZXi (2013 model) and it still runs well in Bangalore traffic. I’m looking to upgrade to a big car that has a spacious second row that can be used as a 5 or 7 seater. My budget is around 30 lakh (on-road) but if it is worth increasing my budget, I can consider it. I’m looking for a performance car that will be primarily used for highway driving that will be around 1000km per month. I have taken the test ride of Harrier, XUV 700 (not 7XO), Jeep Meridian (which is my friend’s car that I took for 1000km+ drive and it did not cause any fatigue). I really liked the looks of Sorento but it seems little out of my budget. Is it worth considering now or should I give it some more time? Let me know if I can consider any other car for my requirement that does not have manufacturing or service issues. Also, please suggest whether I should choose diesel, petrol or EVs. I am fine with any fuel but my usage is not that much. Please advice accordingly.

Hi Dear Auto car team , I am OMKAR from Baner , Pune . On 28th June 2026 autocar team had answered my query regarding Toyota Camary . I want to share my further experience. Here’s my experience. I had done quite extensive research on Camary I had a few friends at the dealership I talked with them and they had a demo Camary for sale it was just 17 - 18 months old and had done around 27,000 Km . It was decently priced at around 37.5 lakhs and it was in Pearl White colour . I loved it . I took my family my mom , dad , wife and son on next Sunday to the dealership to see the car . The Camary was out for test drive the sales team told us to wait for about an hour or so till the Camary returns . In that one hour some other sales person offered to show us the Innova Hycross . My whole Family saw the car and they just loved it so much that we ended up booking the Hycross . My family didn’t even see the Camary , Such is the magic of Hycross . The dealership has tentatively told us the delivery will be by mid January. I will share the further experience also . Thanks autocar for your suggestion support and guidance. Hello Autocar India team, I want to thank you for your First Impression articles, detailed reviews, podcasts and other content. Please continue with your impartial reviews. I currently own a 2015 Vento Highline Petrol and still fall in love with the car whenever I take it on long drives. Sadly, there doesn't seem to be much movement in the sedan segment. We can stretch our budget to Rs 40 lakh on-road. Our primary use will be planned or unplanned road trips, with limited city driving. EVs concern me because of battery life and charging infrastructure. Petrol cars are a concern because of E20 and the possibility of higher ethanol blending in the future. Hybrids haven't convinced me either. I also don't want to consider premium hatchbacks like the Creta and Seltos. We have narrowed our choices to the Jeep Meridian Overland or Compass 4x4, although Stellantis' long-term commitment remains a concern; the Kia Sorento Diesel AWD; and the Mahindra XUV 7XO Diesel 4x4. I'm planning to buy a new car with an on-road budget of up to Rs. 30 lakh in India. I want a car that offers excellent comfort, low running costs, and a relaxed driving experience for my daily commute. 1. My Driving Profile -Average monthly driving: 2,500 km -Driving conditions: 60% suburban roads and Highway and 40% city traffic -Long-distance trips: One or two trips per month -Current car: 2017 Maruti Suzuki Baleno, manual transmission 2. Comfort and Ergonomics I'm approximately 6 feet tall and currently experience fatigue and leg pain during my daily commute in my manual Baleno. My top priority is to find a car with: -An automatic transmission for easier driving, especially in traffic. -Excellent front-seat comfort and adequate legroom. -Good driving posture, lumbar support, and adjustable seating. -A comfortable suspension setup for daily commuting and long journeys. -Low cabin noise and minimal driver fatigue. 3. Running Costs and Powertrain -Low running costs and excellent overall energy efficiency are important. -I have charging facilities available at home, so I'm open to considering an electric vehicle (EV). -I'm also willing to consider petrol, diesel, or hybrid vehicles if they offer better overall value. -I want to compare energy or fuel costs, maintenance, insurance, and long-term ownership costs. 4. Family Requirements -The car will primarily be used for my daily commute. My family occasionally travels with me, so rear-seat comfort is also important. -I'm open to both 5-seater and 7-seater options, provided the car meets my comfort and cost requirements. 5. Budget and Ownership -Maximum on-road budget: Rs. 30 lakh -I want a reliable car that offers good value for money over long-term ownership. -I plan to use the car for several years, so durability, battery longevity (for EVs), resale value, and total cost of ownership matter. Please suggest a car.
