7.0
The BYDs crossover styling is muscular yet somewhat bland: it gets a flat, reptilian-nose with a chrome strip, a tight roofline, linked taillights, and fish-scale effect on the C-pillar. At 4,455 mm long with a 2,720 mm wheelbase, it outsizes rivals like the MG ZS EV. Underneath, BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 integrates motor, inverter, transmission, charger, BMS, PDU and VCU into one eight-in-one unit, boasting a 97.5%-efficient motor, 800 V architecture and structural honeycomb blade cells.
7.0
The cabin is quirky but cool, with its bass-string door pads, soft white dash, aircraft-throttle shifter and spaceship steering wheel. A rotating 12.8″ touchscreens the centrepiece and you get blued “leather” that feels premium. Though lower plastics and buttons underwhelm the broad bucket seats, flat floor and long wheelbase deliver generous rear legroom, while the cube-shaped 440 L boot is practical yet lacks a spare wheel.
7.0
The Atto 3 feels silent and well-insulated, delivering fuss-free driving in. Light accelerator inputs yield smooth, measured responses, while harder acceleration unleashes plenty of torque without sudden spikes—resulting in linear, well-mannered performance. Flat out it does 0–100 km/h in a claimed 7.3 seconds despite a 1,750 kg kerb weight.
8.0
A 60.48 kWh battery pack delivers an ARAI-claimed 521 km on a full charge. Fast-charging at up to 80 kW gets the pack from 0 to 80% in about 50 minutes. For a limited period, BYD includes a 7 kW AC home charger plus a 3 kW portable unit for powering external devices, enhancing everyday convenience without altering the core EV experience.
8.0
The steering and throttle are nicely weighted, making low-speed maneuvers effortless. The compliant suspension soaks up small- and medium-sized bumps, though larger potholes still produce noticeable thuds. At speed the Atto 3 feels stable and responsive to steering inputs, yet body roll in corners and light front-end feel under spirited driving betray its comfort-focused setup. Adjustable regen and drive modes exist but yield only subtle differences.
8.0
Kit includes full LED lighting, powered tailgate, wireless charger, powered front seats, ambient lighting, voice assistant, Spotify, USBs and rear vents. Safety gear comprises ABS, ESC, traction and hill-descent control, seven airbags (including centre), 360° camera and ADAS—automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise and collision warnings.
8.0
The Atto 3, however, at between Rs 24.99 for the base model and Rs 33.9 lakh for this top of the line one costs a fair amount. Its rivals deliver almost the same amount of electric car for less, and that could limit appeal. Still, if smooth, refined driving manners are what you are looking for and if you like its sense of individual style, the Atto 3 could be the EV you are looking for.

•1wI am retired and plan to buy an EV primarily for limited daily use in the city. My budget is around ₹35 lakh (ex-showroom). I am considering the Mahindra XEV 9S and would like to know whether it would be a suitable choice for my requirements. If yes, could you please suggest which variant would make the most sense in terms of comfort, features, ease of ownership, and value for money?

Autocar India
For your usage and budget, an EV like the Mahindra XEV 9S works well. The top-spec Pack Three Above with the larger 79kWh battery fits well within your budget, and for that, you'll get all the bells and whistles. This suits you because the XEV 9S is smooth and quiet, with no gear shifts, so stop-and-go traffic feels easy and less tiring. The taller seat makes getting in and out simple, and the view out is good. Some things to be aware of - Mahindra EVs are known to suffer a few software glitches, though these should be fixable with OTA updates, and some find the ride quality a bit soft, so check if you're comfortable with that. The XEV 9e does a better job in this respect.Additionally, considering you're using it mainly in the city, you might find it quite large for your needs. If you're looking at something more compact, the BYD Atto 3 is also worth considering at this price range.

•2wKindly suggest a good EV for a 100 km daily drive in Delhi. I am considering the e-Vitara, Nexon EV, and BYD Atto 3.

Autocar India
For a daily 100 km run in Delhi traffic and heat, the Tata Nexon EV 45kWh suits your usage best among these three options. It has enough real range to finish the day with plenty left, so jams won’t stress you. It can also be conveniently charged overnight on a home wall box, and Tata’s service and public charger presence is good in NCR.It also feels easy to drive in tight streets, rides bumps well, and is more affordable than the BYD. Two things to note: highway trips still need a bit of planning for fast chargers. If you'd like a bit more range, then consider the Tata Curvv EV, which now only comes in the 55kWh variant. If you want more cabin space, stronger highway performance, and fewer charging stops through the week, then the BYD Atto 3 is the upgrade option, though it comes at a significantly higher price.Overall, for your 100 km daily city use, the Nexon EV 45kWh lines up best.

•4wAs a diesel enthusiast, I am now considering switching to an electric vehicle. My budget is around ₹30 lakh. I am currently confused between the BYD Atto 3 and Mahindra Electric offerings. I have also looked at Tata Motors EVs, but I have come across feedback suggesting a noticeable difference between claimed and real-world range.

Autocar India
You are coming from diesel, so your expectations are clear. Strong performance, long-range confidence and a solid feel. The Mahindra XEV 9e matches that better. It is a larger, more powerful car that offers significantly more space and boot capacity, and delivers stronger performance. It also has a bigger battery and higher claimed range, which makes it better suited for long-distance use.The BYD Atto 3, on the other hand, is a more mature and sorted EV. It feels very well put together, easy to drive and comfortable. It is slightly smaller, easier in the city and has a more proven track record as a product. If your usage is mostly urban and you value refinement over size and performance, it is a strong option.

•14wHi! I currently own a BMW M340i, which is 2 years old. I am considering buying an EV for daily and local commuting. I am looking for good design, a great music system and good battery life. Mahindra is already ruled out, as one of my cousins owns one. So I am considering either BYD or MG. If you could suggest any other ICE cars, that would be fine too. My budget is around Rs 30-40 lakh.

Autocar India
If you are looking for a good EV, the BYD Seal is a great option. It is one of the best electric cars in the Rs. 40 lakh range, offering a lot of tech, equipment, and a spacious interior. Performance, too, is very good, which, being a BMW 340i owner, you will appreciate. The MG ZS EV is a good car, but it's not in the league of the BYD Seal. If the Seal is beyond your budget, the BYD Atto 3, priced between Rs. 27 and 37 lakh, is the next best option. It is not as spacious as the BYD, but it is well-equipped and has a good range.Sadly, there are not many good ICE vehicles in that price bracket anymore, but the best option for your money is the Skoda Kodiaq, which ranges from Rs. 47-56 lakh.

•26wHi team, I am planning to buy a new car before March 2026. My budget is Rs 25 lakh. I have a family of four, and my monthly driving will be around 1,500km. The cars I currently have in mind are listed below. Please suggest the best option from these, or recommend an alternative if required. 1. Hyundai Creta Diesel AT (top-end) 2. Kia Seltos (should I wait for the facelift?) 3. Volkswagen Taigun (wait for facelift) 4. BYD Atto 3 (top model or wait for facelift) 5. Tata Sierra

Autocar India
Given your high usage of 1,500km per month, an electric car is not advisable, and thus we would rule out the BYD Atto 3, which, while an excellent vehicle, is also priced considerably higher than the others you have listed.Of the remaining cars, we would recommend a diesel, given your usage. That would also rule out the Volkswagen Taigun facelift, which will continue with petrol engines only. The Tata Sierra has a strong enough diesel engine, which comes with a smooth 6-speed torque converter automatic, but it's quite loud and lacks a strong punch. While not enough is known about the new-generation Seltos yet, between it and the Hyundai Creta, the former is probably the better bet. It will likely use the same smooth, refined 1.5-litre diesel and 6-speed automatic gearbox, but on the whole, the Kia Seltos is expected to be larger and packed with even more tech. We think it is the one you should hold out for.

•26wI own a Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hybrid V model. Within two years of purchase, i.e, November 2023 till now, I drove 60,000 km, an average of 2500 km per month. My usage is a mix of highway and city use. I am planning to buy an EV. I’m not comfortable with XEV 9E because it’s too big for a city commute. Please suggest a good car for mixed usage. I liked the new Volvo XE 30 and BYD Atto 3. Which one do you suggest? My budget is up to 45 lakhs.

Autocar India
Both are excellent options and should fit in your budget of Rs 45 lakh. The Volvo EX30 is the more contemporary option with more luxurious interiors. However, it isn't very spacious and is missing some features you would expect at this price.Overall, your better bet is the BYD Atto 3, which, though a little bit older and with a quirky interior design, is the more complete car. Most of all, this BYD car has a more spacious interior, particularly in the rear seat. Moreover, it has a slightly higher range rating and a slightly lower price than the Volvo.

•26wI drive 2,000 km per month, with about 80% on highways (primarily the Hyderabad ORR). I’m choosing between two EVs: the Windsor EV Pro at ₹20 lakh on-road and the BYD Atto 3 Dynamic at ₹27 lakh on-road. Is the ₹7 lakh premium for the BYD Atto 3 worth the investment for my usage? Please advise.

Autocar India
The Windsor offers great value for money, and its cabin is spacious and well-appointed, but it’s fundamentally a city-focused EV. For your usage, especially with 80% of your running on highways and the fast, open conditions of Hyderabad’s ORR, the BYD Atto 3 is the more suitable choice. The MG Windsor’s ride is on the firmer, brittle side, and it lets in a fair bit of road noise, which becomes tiring at higher speeds. In contrast, the Atto 3 is noticeably better insulated, feels more planted at speed, and generally drives like a segment-above product. It’s also more refined overall and offers significantly more range- an important factor given your monthly 2,000km usage. So yes, for your specific requirement, the extra Rs 7 lakh for the Atto 3 is justified.
