The BMW X7 is the flagship BMW SUV in India that comes with 3 rows of seating. It is available in 3 variants, prices of which range from ₹1.25 crore and ₹1.29 crore (ex-showroom).

The BMW X7 is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. These include a 3-litre 6-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 381hp and 520Nm, and a 3-litre 6-cylinder diesel engine that puts out 340hp and 700Nm. Both the petrol and diesel options complete a 0-100kph run in 5.8 seconds and 5.9 seconds, respectively. Both engine options are mated with a Steptronic automatic transmission that sends power to all wheels (AWD).

The BMW X7 mileage varies as per the chosen powertrain option. The petrol engine has a claimed fuel efficiency of 11.29kpl, which for the diesel engine is 14.31kpl. Both engines are mated with a 48V mild-hybrid system for enhanced economy.

I am planning to buy a luxury SUV, and my budget is between Rs 1.4 and 1.6 crore. I am mainly confused between the Range Rover Sport, Mercedes GLS, and BMW X7. Which one would be the best choice?

The Range Rover Sport is the one I’d steer you towards. While all three SUVs are highly capable and deliver the luxury and performance you’d expect at this price point, the Range Rover Sport stands apart in a few key areas. Its design has an undeniable sense of occasion - understated yet distinctive - and it carries a level of road presence the German SUVs can’t quite match. The cabin feels properly special too, with exquisite materials, a minimalist layout and a plushness that immediately sets it apart.
Out on the road, the Range Rover Sport blends performance and comfort exceptionally well. The ride quality is superb, gliding over bad patches with an effortlessness that makes long journeys genuinely relaxing.
Yes, the Mercedes-Benz GLS and BMW X7 are both extremely competent and offer more seats and practicality, but they lack the sense of class and emotional appeal that the Range Rover delivers so naturally.
