The Maruti Suzuki Swift is a five-seat premium hatchback available with petrol and factory-fitted CNG powertrains. It is offered with both manual and AMT gearbox options, catering to buyers looking for an efficient hatchback for daily commuting as well as highway driving.

The Maruti Swift price in India starts from Rs 5.84 lakh, and goes up to Rs 8.74 lakh (ex-showroom), with 12 variants on offer.

Power comes from a 1.2-litre Z Series three-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 82hp and 112Nm in petrol guise, while the CNG version develops 70hp and 102Nm.

Key features include a touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, wireless charger, and cruise control, depending on the variant. Safety equipment includes six airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold assist and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift rivals the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Tata Tiago, while buyers looking for a larger hatchback may also consider the Maruti Baleno.

Maruti Suzuki Swift price & variants

The Maruti Suzuki Swift is offered in LXi, VXi, VXi (O), ZXi and ZXi+ trims. A 1.2-litre petrol engine is standard across the range, but a CNG kit is available only on select trims.

LXi: The range-starting trim packs halogen projector headlights, LED tail-lights, 14-inch steel wheels, power windows, 6 airbags, ESC, rear defogger and remote central locking. It misses out on several convenience features and an automatic gearbox choice.

VXi: Moving up to the VXi trim adds wheel covers, powered adjustment for outer rear-view mirrors (ORVMs), 7-inch touchscreen with smartphone connectivity, 4 speakers and a day/night interior rear-view mirror. An automatic gearbox choice is available from here onwards.

VXi (O): The VXi (O) does not carry a high price premium over the VXi trim, and adds powered folding ORVMs, connected car tech, keyless entry and push-button start/stop system.

ZXi: Here, the Swift adds LED projector headlights, 15-inch alloy wheels, wireless phone charger, automatic climate control and rear washer and wiper. We’d recommend this trim given that it’s fairly well-equipped and offers all powertrain options.

ZXi+: You do get some more kit in the top-end ZXi+ trim, including LED fog lights, rear camera, machined 15-inch alloy wheels, 9-inch touchscreen and a premium Arkamys audio system; however, there is no CNG option on offer here. Also, the Swift is pricey at the top-end.

Maruti Suzuki Swift FAQs

The X-factors of the Maruti Swift are its sporty handling, which does not come at a compromise of fuel efficiency. It also gets all the essential creature comforts and an easy-to-use nature, making it suitable for new and experienced drivers alike.

The Maruti Swift offers a firm ride that is appreciable at high speeds, as it maintains its composure well. The engine, too, feels relaxed at triple-digit speeds, while the handling has a sporty character. These advantages make it a good car for long drives.

The front seats of the Swift have chunky side bolstering, which will fit an average-sized individual snugly, but can trouble passengers over 6 feet. The rear seats, however, are very comfortable and can easily sit three individuals, the only caveats being the protruding rear AC vents and a missing middle headrest.

Yes, the Maruti Swift is still a fun-to-drive car, as with the fourth-generation, the sporty handling of the Swift has been improved further. While its new 3-cylinder engine is less powerful on paper, it offers a similar drive experience as before. The fuel efficiency has also amped up now, which is appreciable.

The Maruti Swift's suspension is decent at best, as the low-speed comfort is also appreciable, as it soaks in potholes and bumps nicely. However, some movements do come through quite sharply at highway speeds.

Hello, Autocar India Team. I am a first-time car buyer with a budget of Rs 6-12 lakh. I am looking for a petrol automatic hatchback or micro SUV. I am a new driver, so I want something that is easy to drive and fuel-efficient. I have shortlisted the Tata Altroz DCA/AMT, Tata Punch AMT, Tata Tiago AMT, Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT, Maruti Suzuki Baleno AMT, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor AMT and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios AMT. I am confused between these options. Which one would you recommend for my requirements?

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Baleno AMT. As a first-time buyer, your priorities are ease of driving, fuel efficiency and a stress-free ownership experience, and the Baleno delivers on all three. It is one of the easiest cars to drive in the city thanks to its light controls and smooth AMT, and it is also one of the most fuel-efficient cars in this segment. This Maruti Suzuki car also offers a spacious cabin and a comfortable ride, making it a car you can grow into as your needs evolve. Maruti's service network and low maintenance costs further add to the ownership peace of mind. The Tata Altroz DCA is the better automatic gearbox, but the Baleno's AMT is smooth enough for city driving, and the overall ownership experience is stronger. The Tata Punch and Tiago are good value, but the Baleno feels more premium and spacious. The Swift is fun to drive but not as spacious as the Baleno and costs nearly as much. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor is essentially the same car as the Baleno underneath, and if you need the additional ground clearance or prefer its looks, it is a solid choice too. The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is a strong alternative with a smooth AMT, but the Baleno offers a more spacious cabin.Overall, the Baleno AMT is the most balanced choice for a first-time buyer looking for ease of driving, fuel efficiency and long-term peace of mind.

Which would offer better value for money between the Swift and Exter? I am considering the Swift HX4 and Exter VXi variants. Which one offers better driving dynamics and more space? The Swift is wider, while the Exter is taller. Which one is more spacious?

Verified
1w

Go for the Hyundai Exter HX4. It is the better value-for-money package and the more practical car overall. This Hyundai car offers a higher seating position, better ground clearance and a more spacious cabin, especially in terms of headroom and rear seat comfort. It also feels more substantial on the road and is better suited to rough roads and speed breakers. The Swift VXi is the better driver's car with a lower seating position, a better engine and a more engaging driving experience, but it is not as practical as the Exter. Overall, the Exter is the better choice for most buyers looking for value, space and practicality.

I am planning to buy a Maruti Suzuki Swift next month. Which variant offers the best value for money, and is now a good time to book one?

Verified
1w

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Swift ZXi variant. It offers the best balance of features and value, giving you all the essentials like the touchscreen, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, auto climate control, alloy wheels and key safety features without pushing the price too high. The higher variants add some nice extras, but the ZXi is where the value sweet spot lies. As for timing, now is a good time to book. The Swift is relatively new, with no major updates expected in the near future. If you are happy with the car, go ahead and book it.

Booked Swift (yes this red colour!!) yesterday after 2 years of saving up. Still can't believe it, nervous and excited at the same time.

Hi Autocar Team, I currently own a 2021 Maruti Suzuki Swift ZXi (P) and have covered 100,000 km. My daily running is around 90–95 km for my office commute, and I live in Delhi-NCR while working in Greater Noida. I am a family of two, and my ownership experience so far has been completely hassle-free. The Swift is still running perfectly and delivers an average of around 22 km/l. Since I have now crossed the 100,000 km mark, should I consider upgrading? Given my daily running and the fact that I can manage home charging, I feel an EV could suit my requirements. Should I consider the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Alpha or the VinFast VF6 Wind?

Verified

Given the usage, the Maruti Suzuki E Vitara Alpha is the better fit. A 90- 95 km daily commute, combined with the ability to charge at home, makes an EV a sensible upgrade. The E Vitara is a well-rounded package, backed by Maruti’s extensive service network and established ownership experience. The VinFast VF6 Wind is an interesting alternative, with a larger battery and a longer claimed range. However, VinFast is still a new brand in India and does not have the same service reach or long-term track record as Maruti. The e Vitara’s 50.8kWh battery and 550km ARAI-claimed range are more than adequate for the daily commute, while the service network of Maruti Suzuki cars across Delhi-NCR and Noida is a significant advantage for long-term ownership. The VF6 Wind’s 59.6kWh battery and 525km claimed range are impressive, but its limited service footprint and lack of an established ownership history make it a riskier choice at this stage. The E Vitara Alpha also gets a good set of features, including a 360-degree camera, ADAS and a 12.3-inch touchscreen, making it a well-equipped and practical upgrade from the Maruti Suzuki Swift. The VinFast car does have an advantage in terms of rear-seat and boot space, although for a family of two, the e Vitara should be more than adequate. It also feels more solid and planted at higher speeds, while offering considerably more power and a more engaging driving experience. However, these advantages are not enough to sway the overall decision. For this particular use case, the e Vitara Alpha remains the safer and more sensible choice.
