FAQs
Trending Questions on BMW Cars - Answered by Autocar Experts
I want to buy an EV as my last car, but can't make up my mind from existing and upcoming models despite testing a few. The Ioniq 5 was too wide to park comfortably between stilts. Being 74, I want to maximise comfort, have full ADAS and preferably captain seats in the second row for long driver-assisted trips. At the same time, it should be suitable for daily runabouts, being the only car since my driving is not much.
The only EV with captain seats is the BYD eMax 7, but since you have the budget of an Ioniq 5, we’d highly recommend considering the BMW iX1. It’s compact enough for city driving, and being narrower than the Ioniq 5, it fits more easily into tight parking bays. The ADAS features, comfortable seats for long drives, and the enjoyable driving experience make it a strong choice. We truly hope your motoring journey continues for many years, and that the BMW iX1 proves to be a rewarding companion.
I have narrowed it down to the BMW X3 or the Audi Q3. Which car would be better for Hilly terrain?
I have a budget of 50-60 lakhs and I wish to buy a luxury car which should be a proper diesel automatic car with good performance, space and decent mileage.
We'd recommend that you increase your budget slightly and get the BMW 320d long wheelbase - it delivers a proper luxury car experience with a fantastic diesel-automatic powertrain.
Volvo had launched a plug-in hybrid with a battery range of about 75 km, which means 75 km of city commute can be done on pure battery, and after that, it becomes a strong hybrid car. Can you suggest similar luxury SUVs that are currently available or expected to be available soon?
Some plug-in hybrid luxury SUVs currently available in India include:
- Land Rover Defender 110 – On road price in Surat: ₹1.16 crore to ₹3.11 crore
- Range Rover Autobiography – On road price in Surat: ₹3.01 crore to ₹4.05 crore
- BMW XM – On road price in Surat: ₹2.90 crore
These models offer both electric-only driving for short distances and strong hybrid performance for longer trips.
I am currently planning to upgrade my car and considering the BMW iX1. I’m a bit confused between choosing the petrol variant or the electric one. I would appreciate your guidance based on my usage pattern. Currently, I drive a Hyundai Verna petrol, which I’ve used for six years with a total running of around 50,000 km. I’m based in Pune and typically commute to the office twice a week. Occasionally, I go on long drives — about twice a year.
The BMW iX1 is a better choice than the X1 petrol. Besides being smoother and zippier than the petrol version, running costs will be much lower too. Also, if your occasional long drives are around 300 km or less, you won’t need to worry about charging along the way, as the iX1 has a real-world range of around 370–430 km on a full charge.
I want to upgrade from my Tiguan to a luxury pre-owned SUV with a budget of around ₹50 lakh. I feel that the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, or Volvo XC90 are the only proper upgrades, considering how capable the Tiguan already is. My priorities are reasonable maintenance costs during ownership and driving pleasure. Please suggest which option would be most suitable, or if there are any other recommendations. I do not prefer EVs.
The BMW X5 would be a logical upgrade from your Tiguan since you prioritise driving pleasure. BMW also offers multiple warranty and service packages, ranging from 3 to 6 years, so it’s advisable to look for a used example that has been optioned with these, as they’ll ease your ownership experience as well.
