2026 is going to be a busy year for Volkswagen India, as it will be launching five models here. Although the company hasn’t shared official details, as per our sources, we understand that the standard VW Tayron and a second batch of the Golf GTI are due this year. These will join the Taigun and Virtus facelifts, as well as the Tayron R-Line, which we had recently confirmed. Here’s what we know so far about Volkswagen’s upcoming cars and their respective launch timelines.
Volkswagen Tayron R-Line (March)
Price estimate: Rs 50 lakh; engine: 2L turbo-petrol
The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line will mark the brand’s re-entry into the three-row premium SUV space, replacing the Tiguan Allspace, which was discontinued in 2021. Local assembly of the Tayron R-Line, the 7-seater version of the Tiguan R-Line, has already begun at VW’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad) facility. The Tayron R-Line will be powered by a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering 204hp and 320Nm of torque, coupled with a 7-speed DSG automatic and all-wheel drive. It will share most of its styling cues with the Tiguan R-Line but will be longer to accommodate a third row. The feature set should be similar, too.
Volkswagen Tayron (Q2)
Price estimate: Rs 45 lakh-48 lakh; engine: 2L turbo-petrol
Volkswagen will also be bringing the standard Tayron to India later this year. Compared to the top-spec R-Line trim, the range-starting model may miss out on some features and an exterior body kit. While powertrain specs are still under wraps, the India-spec Tayron may be equipped with the same 204hp 2.0 TSI engine as the R-Line variant.
Volkswagen Taigun facelift (Q2)
Price estimate: Rs 12 lakh-19 lakh; engines: 1L and 1.5L turbo-petrol
The Volkswagen Taigun facelift has been spotted testing multiple times, and while there won’t be much in terms of sheet metal, it will be getting updates to the soft parts, along with redesigned alloy wheels. It will retain the same engine options as the outgoing model while likely featuring a new 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox with the 1-litre TSI mill, which currently gets a 6-speed automatic unit. Feature additions to the updated Taigun could include a panoramic sunroof.
Volkswagen Virtus facelift (Q3)
Price estimate: Rs 12 lakh-18 lakh; engines: 1L and 1.5L turbo-petrol
The facelifted Volkswagen Virtus is expected to get an updated front and rear design, along with a new design for the alloy wheels. Much of the interior and feature set will be shared with the facelifted Taigun, while ADAS could be a new addition. Engine options will remain as is, with the 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine being paired to either a 7-speed DSG or a 6-speed manual. However, the 6-speed automatic, which is currently mated to the 1-litre TSI unit, may make way for a new 8-speed torque-converter automatic.
Volkswagen Golf GTI second batch (Q4)
Price estimate: Rs 53 lakh; engine: 2L turbo-petrol
Buoyed by strong demand, Volkswagen is preparing to bring a second batch of the Golf GTI to India, which we had also reported earlier. While 250 units were planned for the first lot, VW could secure only 150 cars, all of which were pre-booked days before prices were announced. Notably, additional features could be introduced with the performance hatchback this time. The Golf GTI is powered by a 265hp 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, sending drive to the front wheels.
