    1. Tesla Model Y gets up to 622km range (WLTP certified)
    2. Model Y comes to India as a full import
    3. First showroom has opened in Mumbai; Delhi to follow

Here's a look at the detailed price list of Tesla Model Y in India:

Tesla Model Y India price (ex-showroom)
    Standard RWDRs 59.89 lakh

The Tesla Model Y has arrived in India as a full import, and while the company had hinted at plans of local manufacturing, it has later clarified that it is not interested in manufacturing in India.

Tesla Model Y range and charging in India

Two battery options with up to 622km range

The Standard version of the Model Y gets a WLTP range of up to 500km and can sprint from 0 to 100kph in 5.9 seconds. Meanwhile, the Long Range variant has a WLTP-certified range of 622km and a 0-100kph acceleration time of 5.6 seconds. Although the Tesla India website does not specify it clearly, internationally, the Standard Model Y gets a 64kWh battery with a 299hp rear motor, while the Long Range gets a 78.1kWh battery with a 340hp rear motor. Both have a claimed top speed of 201kph.

Tesla claims the Long Range battery can be topped off with up to 267km of range in just 15 minutes using its Supercharger at a charging rate of 250kWh. Tesla will set up 16 Superchargers in India, with eight initial ones coming up in and around Mumbai and Delhi.

Tesla Model Y exterior and interior design

Very understated design; interior controls heavily rely on touchscreen

The Model Y has arrived in India in its latest facelifted guise that was revealed in January this year. And in typical Tesla fashion, it is very understated. The fascia is characterised by just a full-width LED light bar; the headlamps are positioned on the bumper and are bordered by air vents. The profile, though, has a few creases, flush-fitting door handles, a large glasshouse and 19-inch aero-optimised alloy wheels. At the rear, it has a sloping roofline, a ducktail spoiler, full-width LED tail-lamps and a dual-tone finish for the bumper.

The interior, too, is very minimalistic and is just dominated by a large 15.4-inch touchscreen. There are almost no buttons at all, except for a few on the steering wheel, and even the AC vents are concealed within the dashboard and are electronically operated. There are a lot of storage spaces on the centre console, though, and an 8-inch touchscreen at the rear to control seats, AC and media functions.

    Tesla Model Y India-spec features

Autopilot is an optional extra for Rs 6 lakh

In India, the Tesla Model Y comes equipped the above-mentioned 15.4-inch central touchscreen, powered, heated and ventilated driver and front passenger seats, powered 2-way folding and heated rear seats, a 9-speaker audio system, an 8-inch rear touchscreen, ambient lighting, powered front and rear AC vents, eight exterior cameras, panoramic glass roof, connected car tech, heated steering and windshield, and a dashcam.

Notably, customers in India can also equip the Model Y with Tesla’s famed Autopilot (autonomous driving) feature for an additional Rs 6 lakh. However, most of these features can't be activated and used right away as it is subject to regulatory approval. The Tesla India website states that the full capability will be made available ‘in future updates’. To know more about optional features, colours and interior trims, click here.

    Tesla Model Y warranty details

Tesla is providing a 4-year or 80,000km warranty, whichever is earlier, on the entire vehicle. Meanwhile, the battery and drive unit come with an 8-year or 1,92,000km warranty, whichever is earlier.

Tesla Model Y India rivals and deliveries

Rivals Kia EV6, Mercedes EQA and Volvo EC40

Despite coming to India as a full import, the Tesla Model Y is quite competitively priced and finds itself in the company of the Kia EV6 (Rs 65.97 lakh), Volvo EC40 (Rs 59 lakh) and Mercedes-Benz EQA (Rs 67.20 lakh). Deliveries for the regular Tesla Model Y are expected to begin this quarter itself, followed by the Long Range variant from October onwards.
