Tata revealed during the Punch facelift’s recent launch that the updated SUV scored a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating. Now, Bharat NCAP has released the Tata Punch’s crash test ratings and scores.

Tata Punch BNCAP adult occupant protection results (30.58/32 points)
Frontal offset deformable barrier test: 14.71/16 points; Side movable deformable barrier test: 15.87/16 points

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Tata Punch offered ‘good’ protection to the driver’s head, neck, pelvis and thighs, while the chest, tibiae and feet received ‘adequate’ protection. All critical parts of the co-driver got 'good' protection, except the right tibia, which received ‘adequate’ protection.
The adult occupant’s chest received ‘adequate’ protection in the side movable barrier test, while the head, abdomen and pelvis received ‘good’ safety. All parts of the dummy received ‘good’ protection in the side pole impact test.

Dynamic score: 24/24 points; CRS Installation score: 12/12 points; Vehicle assessment score: 9/13 points

The child seats of both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies were set to a rearward direction in the child occupant protection test. Both dummies scored a full 8 out of 8 points in the frontal and 4 out of 4 in the side crash test.
Although the Tata Punch scored full points for the dynamic score (24 out of 24) and CRS installation score (12 out of 12), it lost 4 points in the vehicle assessment score. As a result, the SUV scored a total of 45 out of 49 points in the overall child occupant protection tests.

The Tata Punch comes with a decently loaded safety suite, including 6 standard airbags, ESC, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a 360-degree camera with a blind spot monitor, an auto-dimming inside rearview mirror (IRVM) and ISOFIX child seat anchorages.
Introductory prices of the Tata Punch facelift range from Rs 5.59 lakh to Rs 10.54 lakh. It rivals the Hyundai Exter, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
