MG IM6 SUV to launch in India this year under Select retail channel

The next new model from MG’s premium Select outlets will be the IM6 SUV, which is expected to arrive around October 2026. It will be brought in as a full import, but will be positioned below the M9, likely serving as the entry point to the MG Select line-up. Prices can be expected to be around Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom).

MG IM6: What to expect?

Incidentally, MG had toyed with the idea of bringing the IM6 to India when it was showcased here at Auto Expo 2025. For reference, IM, which stands for ‘Intelligent Mobility’, was founded as an EV-only brand in 2020 by MG’s parent, SAIC Motor, along with e-commerce giant Alibaba and R&D specialists Zhangjiang Hi-Tech. Finally, the decision has followed the encouraging response MG has received for the first two Select models – the Cyberster roadster and M9 MPV – and also the interest the IM6 drew at Auto Expo 2025.

The IM6 has made an appearance in India previously at the 2025 Auto Expo.

The range-topping version of the IM6 uses an 800V electrical architecture that enables DC fast charging at up to 396kW, and its 100kWh battery is claimed to charge from 30-80 percent in just over 15 minutes. The battery is offered with a 408hp, 500Nm rear-wheel-drive configuration and a 778hp, 802Nm all-wheel-drive set-up, with claimed 0-100kph times of 5.4sec and 3.4sec, respectively. The IM6 RWD has a WLTP-rated range of 555km on a single charge, while the AWD version is rated at 505km; it remains to be seen which configurations MG will bring to India.

Visually, the IM6 doesn’t look like a traditional upright SUV, but more like a coupe-ish crossover. Key design highlights include swoopy, smooth body panels for aero-efficiency and large, L-shaped LED headlamps and a full-width light bar at the rear. Inside, it gets a massive 26.3-inch panoramic screen setup and an additional vertical 10.5-inch screen. Ultra-long-range LiDAR, NVIDIA Orin X chip and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip are standard on the international-spec version. Internationally, the IM6 rivals the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.

What else is on the cards from JSW-MG Motor? 

Following the IM6, MG will also be bringing a new Mahindra XUV 7XO rival by the end of this year to be retailed via the regular MG dealerships. It will be based on the Wuling Starlight 560, which is sold in Indonesia, and will be India’s first mass-market plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). The carmaker is also readying a replacement for the Astor/ZS EV SUVs, which are expected to arrive sometime in 2027.
