Mahindra Thar Roxx secures 5 star Bharat NCAP safety rating

The Bharat NCAP has crash-tested the Mahindra Thar Roxx, which has come away with an impressive 5-star rating for both adult and child occupant protection. The Thar Roxx, along with the XUV 3XO and XUV 400 EV, are the first Mahindra SUVs to be tested by Bharat NCAP, and notably, the Roxx has secured the highest points among all ICE-powered vehicles tested by BNCAP so far.

Mahindra Thar Roxx safety features

Bharat NCAP has tested the base-spec MX3 and the mid-spec AX5 L variants of the Thar Roxx, although the rating applies to all variants of the SUV. As standard, the Thar Roxx comes equipped with six airbags, three-point seatbelts with reminders for all passengers, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ISOFIX anchors for rear outboard seats and a passenger-side airbag cut-off switch. The Thar Roxx also complies with AIS-100 pedestrian protection norms. Its top-spec variants even have an ADAS suite. Notably, the Thar Roxx is also the first body-on-frame SUV to be tested by Bharat NCAP.

Mahindra Thar Roxx adult occupant protection

The Thar Roxx has secured 31.09 points out of 32 in adult occupant protection (AOP), which is the second-highest AOP score from Bharat NCAP after the Tata Punch EV (31.46/32 points). The report noted that the protection offered to the driver’s and the passenger’s head and neck region was good, although protection to the driver’s chest and knee area was adequate. The Roxx secured 15.09 out of 16.00 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test. In the side movable deformable barrier test, the Roxx secured 16.00 out of 16.00, offering good protection overall. In the side pole impact test, it was rated OK. The Roxx also complied with ESC test requirements.

However, unlike Global NCAP crash test reports, Bharat NCAP does not specify if the body shell was stable under impact or capable of withstanding further loadings.

Mahindra Thar Roxx child occupant protection

In the child occupant protection, the Thar Roxx secured 45 out of 49 points, the same as the Tata Punch EV and the highest so far. It got full points in the dynamic test (24/24) and CRS installation test (12/12) and scored 9 out of 13 in the vehicle assessment test. Both the 18-month-old and the 3-year-old child dummies were tested in rearward-facing child seats positioned in the front passenger seat, secured by ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg.

However, here again, Bharat NCAP does not provide as detailed a report on the exact level of protection offered to the child dummies as Global NCAP does.
