Maruti Suzuki, with the best-ever exports of 3,30,081 passenger vehicles in FY2025, ensured it remained India’s leading exporter for the fourth fiscal in a row. What helped was Maruti Suzuki doubling its SUV and MPV exports to 1,57,000 units from 77,927 units in FY2024. A good number of this has come from strong demand for the India-made Fronx and Jimny in Japan.

Meanwhile, Honda Cars India exported 60,229 vehicles in total, including 45,167 SUVs. This puts the company in second place in terms of SUV exports, while Nissan, with 29,155 units of the Magnite, made it to the third spot.

    Maruti Suzuki Fronx

The Maruti Fronx was the top-exported model in the overall passenger vehicle segment and the UV segment. With 69,133 units exported, the compact crossover saw a massive 364 percent year-on-year growth (FY2024: 14,887 units). In FY2025, the Fronx jumped five ranks to become the most exported SUV, particularly fuelled by demand from Japan, where it is sold with a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine and all-wheel drive.

    Maruti Suzuki Jimny

While the Jimny has been struggling in the domestic market, it recorded a handsome 116 percent year-on-year increase in exports – 47,982 units (FY2024: 22,191 units). Since November 2020, Maruti Suzuki has been producing the 3-door Jimny exclusively for export to both left- and right-hand-drive markets in Africa and the Middle East from its mother plant in Gurgaon, Haryana. And since October 2023, the company has started exporting the 5-door Jimny to markets like Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa.

    Honda Elevate

The Honda Elevate was the third highest-exported SUV in FY2025, with 45,167 units – up 340 percent year-on-year (FY2024: 10,273 units). It moved up seven ranks from its tenth-place position in FY2024. Like the Jimny, the big boost for the Elevate came from Japan, where it is sold as the WR-V. It was also the most exported Honda model in FY2025, ahead of the City sedan (14,099 units).

    Nissan Magnite

Nissan also managed a healthy growth in exports on the back of just one model – the Magnite. With 29,155 units, the Magnite saw a solid 213 percent growth in exports (FY2024: 9,314).

    Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder

In fifth position is the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which was Toyota’s second bestselling product after the Innova MPV in the domestic market. With 27,623 units exported, the Hyryder registered a strong 59 percent YoY growth in exports (FY2024: 17,368 units).

    Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

The Maruti Grand Vitara ranked sixth on the export UV chart. With 20,305 units exported, demand for this model was down 13 percent (FY2024: 23,362 units). As a result, the Grand Vitara’s ranking has gone down four ranks from its second spot in FY2024.

    Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

The Maruti Ertiga, with 18,426 units sold and 14 percent growth, is the first of the two 3-row models in this top 10 export UVs list. Ranked seventh in FY2025, it is down two positions from the fifth spot in FY2024.

    Volkswagen Taigun

The Volkswagen Taigun, with exports of 14,903 units and 18 percent year-on-year growth (FY2024: 12,621 units), drives in at the eighth spot. However, it is one rank down year-on-year.

    Kia Sonet

The Sonet, which was Kia India’s bestselling model in the domestic market in FY2025, has seen a sharp decline in its exports. At 13,762 units and down 55 percent year-on-year (FY2024: 30,574 units), Kia shipped 16,812 fewer Sonets overseas last fiscal. This performance sees the Sonet’s export drop to the ninth spot from being the bestselling export UV in FY2024.

    Hyundai Alcazar

At the tenth spot is the Hyundai Alcazar, which, apart from the Ertiga, is the only other three-row model to make it to this list. However, at 9,129 units, the Alcazar saw a slight decline of 16 percent (FY2024: 10,825 units).

Vehicle category-wise, this top 10 list contains four compact SUVs, four midsize SUVs, one MPV and one three-row SUV. Carmaker-wise, Maruti Suzuki has four models, while Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Volkswagen, Kia and Hyundai have one each.
