The BMW i7 flagship electric sedan has crossed the sales milestone of 1,000 units. Launched in 2023 as the brand’s first all-electric sedan, the i7 is the EV counterpart to the ICE-powered 7 Series. It is also BMW’s second-bestselling EV after the iX1 SUV.
- The i7 is BMW’s first electric sedan to cross the 1,000 sales mark
- It is sold in two trims: eDrive50 M Sport and powerful xDrive M70
In 2025, BMW was the bestselling premium luxury EV maker in India, surpassing rivals such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Volvo by a significant margin and even outselling mass-market brands like Kia and Citroen. The German automaker’s EV sales jumped 200 percent year on year to 3,753 units, accounting for 21 percent of its overall sales. In 2024, the share of electric models in its sales was just 8 percent.
The i7, which takes on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQS, features a 101.7kWh battery pack. The output is 449hp and 650Nm in the eDrive 50 M Sport guise and 650hp and 1,015Nm in the xDrive M70 version with dual motors. The cabin gets dual screens for the infotainment and driver’s display, a 31-inch 8K screen for the rear passengers, executive lounge seating, heated, ventilated and massaging seats all around, a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond audio system, four-zone auto climate control, a head-up display and soft-close doors.
Commenting on the sales milestone, BMW Group India president and CEO Hardeep Singh Brar said, “The BMW i7 is not merely a luxury sedan; it is a bold declaration of ‘Forwardism’. Crossing the 1,000-unit mark reflects its strong resonance with customers who seek the perfect fusion of avant-garde design, electrifying performance and uncompromised luxury,” adding that the i7 continues to shape what’s next and define their clear leadership in the luxury electric segment.
