Vinfast electric scooters India launch details

Scooters will be developed specifically for Indian market

In a conversation with our sister publication, Autocar Professional, Vinfast Asia CEO Pham Sanh Chau revealed some of the plans the manufacturer has for our market. He mentioned that the two-wheeler programme will be housed at Vinfast’s Tamil Nadu facility, where the company is expanding infrastructure to support a separate production line for electric two-wheelers. He also confirmed that the scooters are being developed specifically for the Indian market rather than being global carryover products.

While Vinfast’s four-wheeler plant is being ramped up for an annual capacity of 1,50,000 units, the two-wheeler business is being planned on a much larger scale. The long-term vision is around one million units of capacity, but the company did not disclose timelines for achieving this capacity or the investment required to do so.

We’ve also learnt that the manufacturer is already in discussions with Indian suppliers to localise components, including batteries, to bring down costs and improve competitiveness. The company is also evaluating eligibility for government incentive programmes, such as PLI and PM E-DRIVE, depending on the scale and timing of new investments.

Vinfast also mentioned that the scooters are being developed after extensive market research over the past year, leading to products designed around local usage patterns, infrastructure, typical commute distances and price sensitivity, suggesting that the upcoming scooters will be positioned as affordable, volume-focused products.
