Ever since Bengaluru-based startup Ather Energy entered the market, it has had only one platform to work with, which underpins its two offerings – the sporty 450 and the practical Rizta. All that changed some months ago when Ather debuted its new EL platform, which is designed to be modular and underpin three distinct types of scooters. Now, the company has filed a design patent for one of its upcoming scooter models, and this one looks very similar to the EL01 working concept we saw at the company’s Community Day 2025.

What to expect from Ather’s EL platform products?
These new products will coexist with the Rizta and 450 models
Before we begin dissecting what’s visible in the patent image, a little refresher on what the EL platform is and what it means for Ather is pertinent. The EL platform is designed to be modular – so it can be used for multiple products with differing body styles – and cost-effective to produce. The EL01 concept showcased at Community Day 2025 was a working prototype of a family-centric electric scooter, and the production version of this has now been patented by the company.
What immediately stands out at first glance is that the design of this upcoming scooter is very familiar and is nearly identical to the EL01 concept, save for the addition of mirrors. It has a very simple, uncluttered design like you’d expect from a family scooter, with some neat design touches like the big LED DRL and matching LED tail-light.
At Community Day, Ather shared some technical details with us, like the fact that the EL platform will be capable of housing batteries with capacities ranging from 2-5kWh. The EL01 concept used a 14/12-inch (F/R) alloy wheel setup and had a new swingarm-mounted motor, both of which are likely to be carried forward to the production-spec model. The concept also had a huge 7-inch TFT display, and considering that Ather likes to cram its products chock-full of technology, this – and many other features – is likely to be present on the production scooter as well.
The first of Ather’s new EL platform-based products will come out in the festive season of 2026, and considering the mass appeal that family scooters have, as well as the patent the company has filed, this particular one might be the one spearheading the charge. Products based on the EL platform will coexist with the ones from Ather’s first platform, at least for some time.
