It has been just 18 months since the Hero Mavrick 440 was launched and the company has decided to pull the plug on its most premium motorcycle yet.

Hero Mavrick 440 shared its platform with Harley X440

There were significant visual and mechanical differences.

The Mavrick 440 was launched in early 2024 as a roadster version of the Harley-Davidson X440, which is also made by Hero in India. The Mavrick differentiated itself with a completely different design and smaller 17-inch wheels. The Mavrick was Hero’s first attempt at taking on the huge modern classic segment occupied by bikes like the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Honda CB350 family, Jawa 350s and the Triumph Speed 400.

In our reviews, we found that the Mavrick was a pleasant bike to ride and its torquey engine, easy-going dynamics and appealing price tag were its strong points.

Negligible sales in 2025.

However, sales of the Mavrick 440 soon started to lag behind the Harley-Davidson X440, which is sold out of the same Hero Premia dealer network. For example, Hero sold 8,974 Harley X440s and just 3,214 Mavrick 440s in the first nine months of FY2025.

By January 2025, sales had slowed down to just over 50 units and have more or less been at single digits or zero since April 2025. In response to these weak sales, Hero has discontinued the Mavrick 440, although the bike is still listed on the company’s website as of publishing this piece.

This decision has also probably been taken to give the Harley X440 breathing room on showroom floors and allow the company to focus on growing the Harley brand. It has now been two years since the Harley-Davidson X440 was launched and we might see a second bike on that platform go on sale later this year.
