Greaves Cotton-owned Ampere Electric has just launched its new Nexus electric scooter, which is its most premium offering to date.

  1. Nexus is the second in-house developed scooter after the Primus
  2. Uses a 3kWh LFP battery
  3. Introductory price range is Rs 1.1 lakh-1.2 lakh ex-showroom

The Ampere Nexus is the production version of thethat was shown at Auto Expo 2023, and it is quite different from the original concept. The company states that the Nexus is meant to be a family-friendly product, but with strong performance.

This vehicle is designed and developed in-house and will be manufactured at the company’s facility at Ranipet, Tamil Nadu. The Nexus gets a 3kWh LFP battery and the company claims a certified range of 136km. Power comes from a mid-mounted motor that produces a peak of 4kWh; the company claims a top speed of 93kph.

Charge time is claimed to be 3.5 hours, but Ampere has not confirmed if this is from 0-100 percent. The scooter will enter a 'Limp home' mode when the battery dips below 20 percent SOC.

The Primus gets either a 6.2-inch LCD display or a large 7-inch colour touchscreen display that can also be controlled by unique switchgear on both sides of the handlebar. Bluetooth connectivity is available and the Ampere Nexus has full-LED lighting. The scooter comes with five riding modes and a hill-hold function.

Suspension is handled by a telescopic front fork along with dual rear shock absorbers. There's a disc brake up front and a drum at the rear while the scooter runs on 12-inch wheels with 90/90 section tyres at both ends. The company also claims a unique hybrid swingarm design that also houses the motor drivetrain, and that this results in best-in-class NVH.

The design is clean without any excessive sportiness and will appeal to the family-scooter audience at large. The new Ampere Nexus is available in a total of four colours – Zanskar Aqua, Lunar White, Steel Grey and Indian Red.

The Nexus will be available in two variants. Prices start at Rs 1.1 lakh, ex-showroom – this is the model that gets the 6.2-inch LCD screen. The top model with the TFT is priced at Rs 1.2 lakh. These are introductory prices and will increase by Rs 10,000 at a later point which has not been specified. Bookings are now open and deliveries will begin at the end of May across Amperes’ range of over 400 outlets across the country.
