First launched in 2005, the highly popular Toyota Innova MPV has completed 20 years in the Indian market.

The first-gen Innova featured a mono-volume design for more interior space than the Qualis it replaced.

The 2005 Innova's cabin came with forward-facing seats for all rows and even second row captain seats in higher trim levels.

The first facelift for the Innova landed in 2009.

The 2009 Innova facelift brought a new double-slat chrome grille, revised lights and bumpers, and updated wheels.

Inside, the 2009 Innova added steering-mounted audio controls, an in-dash CD changer, and climate control.

The 2012 Innova facelift was the most substantial update for the MPV at the time.

Swept-back headlights, a revised grille, new wheels, and more design updates refreshed the Innova's look.

The 2012 Innova got a Camry-style steering wheel, new audio system, reverse guide system, and wood trim on the centre console.

The final facelift for the first-gen Innova arrived in 2014.

It got a larger grille, updated bumpers, new dual-tone alloy wheels, and more.

Leather seats, a new oak interior colour, and dual airbags as standard headlined the 2014 Innova facelift.

The long-awaited second generation of the Innova, dubbed the Innova Crysta, was launched in 2016.

The Innova Crysta sported sharper styling and offered a trio of stronger engines than the first-gen model.

The cabin of the Innova Crysta was markedly more premium, offering an infotainment touchscreen, leather upholstery, powered front seats, etc.

Toyota issued the first Innova Crysta facelift in late 2020, introducing a larger grille, new alloy wheels, and an updated infotainment system.

Toyota briefly took the Innova Crysta off sale in late 2022, but reintroduced it with mild styling tweaks and a sole diesel-manual powertrain in early 2023.

Launched in November 2022, the Innova Hycross is the third generation of the MPV and the most radically different one to date.

The Hycross is the first Innova to use a monocoque chassis with front-wheel drive, and a 184hp petrol strong hybrid powertrain.

Using a modern platform also allowed Toyota to equip the Innova Hycross with features like a panoramic sunroof and Level 2 ADAS.

The Toyota Innova recently celebrated its 20th anniversary in the Indian market, with the beloved MPV having sold over 12.5 lakh units to date across three generations. Since the first-gen model launched in 2005, the Innova's bulletproof reliability, expansive interior space, and unmatched comfort have made it one of the most trusted names among Indian consumers. We reflect on all three generations of the Innova to see how the MPV has evolved over the years.
