Toyota Taisor vs Citroen C3 X turbo petrol AT real world mileage compared

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor is the carmaker’s only crossover in India, priced from Rs 7.21 lakh. The Citroen C3 crossover is also a viable option at a similar price point; it was updated with an ‘X’ moniker in August 2025, with slight differences outside and inside, along with new features. Notably, both the Taisor and the C3 X pack a turbo-petrol engine with an automatic transmission (AT). But which of these has the better real-world fuel efficiency? We find out.

Both the Taisor and Citroen C3 X offer a 3-cylinder turbo-petrol option with a similar 6-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox, but the French crossover’s engine has a higher displacement. That is reflected in its power and torque figures, which are 10hp and 57Nm more than the Taisor’s. The C3 X’s fuel tank is also bigger by 8 litres.

Though the Taisor weighs less than the C3 X, the latter still has better power-to-weight and torque-to-weight ratios. One thing to note here is that all C3 X turbo-AT variants are priced lower than the Taisor variants with a similar configuration.

On paper, the Toyota Taisor has better ARAI-rated fuel efficiency than the Citroen C3 X, which could mainly be due to its 54kg lighter weight. This is also reflected in our real-world tests. On a litre of petrol, the Toyota runs 1.71km more than the C3 X in city conditions, and on highways, that gap in efficiency widens to 1.97km. So the Taisor’s average mileage of 12.76kpl is 1.84kpl more than the Citroen C3 X’s.

However, owing to its bigger tank size, the Citroen C3 X goes up to 491.4km on a full tank of fuel, which is 19.28km more than the distance the Taisor covers.

Autocar India’s fuel efficiency testing

Before our real-world fuel efficiency tests, we fill our test cars’ tanks to the brim and maintain tyre pressures based on the manufacturer’s recommendations. These cars are driven in fixed city and highway loops in and around Navi Mumbai, and we maintain certain average speeds. Throughout the tests, there is only one person in each car, running the aircon and other electricals, such as the audio system, indicators and wipers, when required, just like a regular user would. Periodic driver swaps further neutralise variations in driver patterns. At the end of each cycle, we calculate efficiency by filling the tanks to full again.
