Months after unveiling it in January, Toyota has finally launched the Ebella, its first electric offering in India. A badge-engineered sibling to the Maruti e Vitara, the Ebella competes in the midsize eSUV space. But apart from different badges, what separates these two eSUVs? Let’s compare their top-spec versions to find out which one makes more sense to purchase, at least on paper.
Explore full specs, features and a price breakdown in our Ebella versus e Vitara comparison.
Toyota Ebella vs Maruti e Vitara: Dimensions
Since both Maruti e Vitara and Toyota Ebella are badge-engineered siblings, their exterior dimensions are identical.
Toyota Ebella vs Maruti e Vitara: Battery and range
Powering both the Ebella and e Vitara is a 61kWh battery pack paired to a front-axle-mounted motor. The motor churns out 174hp and 193Nm of torque, and the ARAI-rated range is pegged at 543km for both.
Toyota Ebella vs Maruti e Vitara: Charging speed and time
Despite the identical battery pack, Toyota is offering a slightly slower 7.2kW AC charger with the Ebella, while the e Vitara comes with a 7.4kW unit. So, charging the Ebella at AC speeds will likely take longer than it does for the e Vitara. Toyota, however, has not revealed the Ebella’s DC charging speed and range top-up time, but these figures are likely to be similar to those of the e Vitara.
Toyota Ebella vs Maruti e Vitara: Exterior features
Both eSUVs get LED headlamps and daytime running lamps (DRLs), power-adjustable and folding outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs), a rear spoiler, 18-inch alloys and rain-sensing wipers. However, the Ebella misses out on front fog lamps.
Toyota Ebella vs Maruti e Vitara: Interior features
The Ebella and e Vitara are equally matched on interior features. Both have a 10.1-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch driver’s display, a 10-way powered driver’s seat, front-seat ventilation and more. The only difference here is that the Ebella gets a JBL-branded audio system, while the e Vitara comes with an Infinity setup.
Toyota Ebella vs Maruti e Vitara: Driving tech
Like the e Vitara, even Toyota has equipped the Ebella with three drive modes (Eco, Normal and Sport), a Snow terrain mode and adaptive cruise control.
Toyota Ebella vs Maruti e Vitara: Safety
It’s not surprising that safety kits are identical for both models, with features such as 7 airbags, Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, an auto-dimming interior rearview mirror (IRVM), a tyre-pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and front and rear parking sensors.
Toyota Ebella vs Maruti e Vitara: Price and verdict
Between the two eSUVs, our recommendation is the e Vitara. Despite both models having largely similar looks, feature sets and identical battery packs, the extra premium for the Ebella is not justified at all. The price gap between badge-engineered Maruti and Toyota models is usually in thousands, but the difference here is Rs 3.81 lakh for their respective top trims. This could be because Maruti is taking a hit on its margins in order to move more units of the e Vitara. The difference, however, is narrower if you opt for Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS), but the Ebella is still the pricier of the two.
