Toyota Ebella vs Maruti e Vitara

Months after unveiling it in January, Toyota has finally launched the Ebella, its first electric offering in India. A badge-engineered sibling to the Maruti e Vitara, the Ebella competes in the midsize eSUV space. But apart from different badges, what separates these two eSUVs? Let’s compare their top-spec versions to find out which one makes more sense to purchase, at least on paper.

Explore full specs, features and a price breakdown in our Ebella versus e Vitara comparison.

Despite the identical battery pack, Toyota is offering a slightly slower 7.2kW AC charger with the Ebella, while the e Vitara comes with a 7.4kW unit. So, charging the Ebella at AC speeds will likely take longer than it does for the e Vitara. Toyota, however, has not revealed the Ebella’s DC charging speed and range top-up time, but these figures are likely to be similar to those of the e Vitara.

Between the two eSUVs, our recommendation is the e Vitara. Despite both models having largely similar looks, feature sets and identical battery packs, the extra premium for the Ebella is not justified at all. The price gap between badge-engineered Maruti and Toyota models is usually in thousands, but the difference here is Rs 3.81 lakh for their respective top trims. This could be because Maruti is taking a hit on its margins in order to move more units of the e Vitara. The difference, however, is narrower if you opt for Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS), but the Ebella is still the pricier of the two.
