The Tata Sierra and Harrier are two of the most popular SUVs in India, offering petrol and diesel engine options. As seen with other Tata models, both the Sierra and Harrier come loaded with features. But which one offers more bang for your buck? Let’s find out.
Note: For this comparison, we’re considering the Harrier’s Fearless X+ trim instead of the Fearless Ultra, as the latter is available only with a petrol engine.

The Harrier is larger than the Sierra
The Harrier is noticeably larger than the Sierra, being 265mm longer, 81mm wider and with an 11mm longer wheelbase. However, both SUVs are similar in height.

The Harrier gets a bigger diesel engine than the Sierra

Both the Sierra and Harrier are powered by the same 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, but the Harrier produces 10hp and up to 25Nm more than the Sierra. Also, the Harrier offers 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options, but the Sierra comes only with the automatic gearbox.
When it comes to diesel, the Harrier is equipped with a larger 2.0-litre engine, delivering 52hp and 70Nm more than the Sierra’s 1.5-litre unit. Both SUVs offer manual and automatic transmission options with the diesel engine.

Both Tata SUVs offer similar exterior features
Both the Sierra and Harrier come with an all-LED lighting setup, 19-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler and powered outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs). However, the Sierra has a few additional features, such as flush-type door handles and a memory function for the ORVMs, which are not available on the Harrier.

The Sierra gets an extra screen and two additional speakers
The Sierra is the first Tata vehicle to feature a dedicated passenger screen. It also comes with two additional speakers and Dolby Atmos surround sound support, features not available in the Harrier Fearless X+. On the other hand, the Harrier offers a powered co-driver’s seat with a boss mode, which is missing in the Sierra Accomplished+.
Additionally, the Harrier has a higher-spec Fearless Ultra trim, which includes a larger 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an e-IRVM with an integrated dashcam, front and rear camera washers and Dolby Atmos support. However, this trim has been excluded from the comparison since it is available only with the turbo-petrol engine option.

Both SUVs pack the same driving tech
Both the Tata SUVs come with similar driving technologies, with the only difference being that the Harrier also offers an additional ‘Eco’ drive mode.

While most of the features are similar, the Tata Harrier Fearless X+ comes with an additional knee airbag, which is not offered on the Sierra.

The Tata Sierra offers the same turbo-petrol engine as the Harrier Fearless X+, but it is over Rs 1 lakh more affordable. While the Sierra is also more budget-friendly with its diesel engine option, the downside is that it delivers significantly less power and torque compared to the Harrier’s diesel engine.

The Sierra offers a better value-for-money proposition
While the Tata Harrier is larger, more spacious and offers more powerful engine options, the Sierra stands out by packing in more features at a significantly lower price, including a dedicated screen for the co-driver, a 12-speaker sound system with Dolby Atmos support and a memory function for the ORVMs, all at a much lower cost. This makes the Sierra the more recommendable option for those looking for a Tata SUV offering better value.
