2026 tata punch facelift price and specs compared with rivals

Four and a half years after it went on sale, the Tata Punch has finally received a facelift. The updated Punch comes with substantial design changes inside and out, a longer list of features, a new turbo-petrol engine, and more. Let’s find out how the 2026 Tata Punch facelift squares up against its chief sub-compact SUV competitors, namely the Citroen C3, Hyundai Exter, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger, on paper.

As noted in our pre-facelift Tata Punch review, its 88hp 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine felt quite insipid, which has been rectified in the facelifted model by way of the Nexon’s 120hp 1.2-litre turbo-petrol motor. This now makes the Punch facelift’s turbo-petrol variants the most powerful among its peers, though the C3’s 1.2-litre turbo engine develops 20-35Nm more torque. The Exter is the only one here to not offer a turbo-petrol engine at all, though its 1.2-litre NA motor is the sole 4-cylinder option here and is stronger than the 1.0-litre NA mills of the Magnite and Kiger.

Coming to gearbox options, the Punch facelift does not offer an automatic transmission with its turbo-petrol engine, unlike the C3, Magnite, and Kiger; the C3 notably comes with a 6-speed torque converter, which is smoother and more sophisticated than the rest. For their NA engines, though, all except the C3 are available with a 5-speed AMT. It’s also worth noting that the Punch and Magnite are the only ones here to get an AMT option with their CNG powertrains.

Though the Punch facelift is among the smaller cars in this company, it should be mentioned that the Kiger and Magnite are larger by virtue of being positioned more towards the compact SUV segment, but priced in line with sub-compact SUVs. That said, the Punch has the shortest wheelbase and places fourth in overall length and third in width here. While the Punch facelift is the tallest (roof rails excluded), its ground clearance falls short of the Magnite and Kiger by a considerable 12mm. Interestingly, the C3 sports the longest wheelbase here.

The Punch facelift, Magnite and Kiger all ride on 16-inch wheels, outsizing those offered by the C3 and Exter. In terms of boot space, the Punch facelift’s petrol variants come third, with the Kiger coming out on top thanks to its 405-litre capacity. Notably, all these sub-compact SUVs can be had with a CNG kit, but only Tata officially discloses the Punch CNG’s boot space, which stands at 210 litres.

The Punch facelift starting price narrowly beats out those of the Magnite and Exter but falls short of the base C3 by a sizable Rs 64,000. For those looking to purchase an automatic, the Punch AMT price starts at Rs 7.54 lakh, which slots the Tata in third place behind the AMT variants of the Magnite (Rs 6.17 lakh starting price) and the Kiger (Rs 6.95 lakh starting price).

Coming to pricing for top-spec petrol variants, the Punch facelift sits between its rivals, but errs closer to the more affordable Exter and C3. Last but not least, the Punch CNG’s starting price also slots halfway between those of the Magnite and Exter, though higher-spec variants cost substantially more.

All prices are ex-showroom, India.
