First launched in 2021, the Kushaq and Taigun were fielded as Skoda’s and Volkswagen’s midsize SUV contenders. For MY26, both models have been refreshed with new styling elements, additional features and a new gearbox option. Both sit on the MQB-A0-IN platform, pack the same engines and are known for their fun-to-drive character. But in top-spec guise, which of the two offers better value? We compare the Kushaq’s Prestige trim to the Taigun’s GT Plus trim to find out.
Explore our Kushaq vs Taigun comparison for a full breakdown of specs, features and prices.
Skoda Kushaq vs Volkswagen Taigun: Dimensions
Kushaq is slightly longer and heavier than the Taigun
Since both SUVs share the same platform, their overall dimensions are nearly identical, including the width, height and wheelbase. However, the Kushaq is 8mm longer and 2kg heavier than the Taigun.
Skoda Kushaq vs Volkswagen Taigun: Engine specifications
Identical 1.5 TSI powers both SUVs
Powering the Kushaq and Taigun top trims is a 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine, developing 150hp and 250Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox. Notably, it’s the only engine in its class with cylinder deactivation tech, wherein the unit operates on only two of the four cylinders at low speeds to save fuel. But the Taigun’s ARAI-claimed figures are marginally higher than the Kushaq’s.
Skoda Kushaq vs Volkswagen Taigun: Exterior features
Welcome/goodbye lighting animations only on the Taigun
Starting with lighting, while LED setups are common on both, there are some differences. The Skoda gets segmented LED DRLs at the front and illuminated branding at the back, whereas the Taigun features illuminated VW logos at the front and back and additionally offers welcome and goodbye lighting animations. However, the Kushaq offers the advantage of front fog lamps. As for colour options, while monotone shades are standard on both SUVs, the Taigun offers a matte finish, too, and dual-tone colours are available only on the Kushaq’s Monte Carlo edition, which gets cosmetic upgrades over the Prestige trim.
Skoda Kushaq vs Volkswagen Taigun: Interior features
Rear seat massager only exclusive to the Kushaq
Both the Kushaq and Taigun are neck and neck when it comes to features. MY26 updates to both SUVs added a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and a more powerful AC. However, the Kushaq gets a massage function for the rear seats, which the Taigun misses out on, and offers two more speakers with its audio system.
Skoda Kushaq vs Volkswagen Taigun: Driving tech
In terms of driving tech, paddle shifters and cruise control are common on the Kushaq and Taigun. However, both SUVs miss out on terrain and drive modes offered on some rivals.
Skoda Kushaq vs Volkswagen Taigun: Safety features
Front parking sensors new on both SUVs
The safety kit on the Kushaq and Taigun includes equipment such as six airbags, ESC, hill-start assist, traction control, a tyre-pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a rear-view camera and rear parking sensors. Front parking sensors are new on both SUVs, but there’s no 360-degree camera. Another missing feature that rivals offer is Level 2 ADAS.
Skoda Kushaq vs Volkswagen Taigun: Price and verdict
Kushaq’s top-spec trim is Rs 20,000 more affordable than the Taigun’s
As for pricing, the Volkswagen Taigun’s top-spec version costs Rs 20,000 more than the fully loaded Kushaq. When it comes to choosing between the two models, styling is a factor, as looks are subjective, and both SUVs are similar underneath.
