The Kia Carens Clavis EV is an electric conversion of the ICE-powered Carens Clavis and is the Korean carmaker’s first locally manufactured EV for the Indian market. Moreover, the Carens Clavis EV is among a handful of all-electric MPVs in India – the others being the BYD eMax 7 and MG M9. Here’s a lowdown of the MPV’s pricing, powertrains, colour options and variant-wise features. We’ll also tell you which variant makes for the best pick in the Carens Clavis EV range.

The Carens Clavis EV features a 42kWh battery with an ARAI-claimed range of 404km, with a single front-mounted motor setup serving as the base powertrain, developing 135hp and 255Nm. There’s a larger 51.4kWh battery on offer, too, which ups the power output to 171hp and the range to 490km.

For the 51.4kWh variants of the Carens Clavis EV, Kia claims a 0-100kph time of 8.4 seconds. All Carens Clavis EV variants have four levels of regenerative braking via paddle shifters. As for charging, the Carens Clavis EV can be juiced up via 7.4kW and 11kW AC chargers and 100kW DC fast chargers. The 11kW AC charger is claimed to provide a 10-100 percent charge in 4 hours for the 42kWh battery and 4.75 hours for the bigger unit. Meanwhile, 100kW DC fast charging takes just 39 minutes for a 10-80 percent charge for both batteries.

Which variant of the Kia Carens Clavis EV should you buy?

HTX trim is good value for money

The Carens Clavis EV is evidently very well-equipped right from the base variant. If your usage is strictly going to be limited to the city, the Carens Clavis EV HTX 42kWh brings a compelling value proposition thanks to the inclusion of a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, ambient lighting, leatherette upholstery, ADAS suite, and more, for just Rs 2.5 lakh more than the HTK+ trim.

Should you occasionally venture outside the city, though, we’d recommend the Carens Clavis EV HTX 51.4kWh for the flexibility and peace of mind that the added range affords, and if you want a sportier touch, the GTX styling package adds lime green brake calipers, gloss black skid plates, metal pedals, and more, for a premium of Rs 50,000.
