Hero Glamour X vs Hero Glamour XTEC: Price and differences explained

The Hero Glamour has, for a few years now, established itself as a benchmark in some aspects of the 125cc commuter segment. With the Glamour XTEC, Hero brought Bluetooth connectivity to this class, and the newly launched Glamour X now adds a host of other segment-first features.

Despite sharing the Glamour name, the X and XTEC variants are quite different. Here’s a breakdown of the key differences across design, chassis, engine, technology and pricing.

Hero Glamour X vs Hero Glamour XTEC: Design and styling

The new Hero Glamour X has a sharper, more muscular design

The two motorcycles differ noticeably in their design, with each taking a slightly different approach. The Glamour X adopts a more muscular stance, featuring bolder bodywork and a taller black-tinted windscreen. Its body panels carry sharper lines, while the tank shroud has been designed and positioned to form an ‘X’ where it meets the fuel tank, which is a thoughtful detail. The bike also receives a redesigned headlight and borrows its tail-light assembly from the Xtreme 250R.

By contrast, the Glamour XTEC takes a more conventional approach, with styling that aligns closely with what one typically expects from a commuter motorcycle.

Hero Glamour X vs Hero Glamour XTEC: Engine and performance

Both bikes share a similar 124.7cc engine, tuned differently for each bike

Under the skin, both bikes are powered by a 124.7cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, sharing the same core architecture but tuned differently. The Glamour X uses the engine from the Xtreme 125R, producing 11.4hp at 8,250rpm and 10.5Nm at 6,500rpm. This unit, which evolved from the original Glamour 125 engine, has been refined with a balancer shaft and a silent cam chain to keep vibrations in check while delivering a smooth, commuter-friendly ride.

In our tests of the Xtreme 125R, it managed 0-60kph in 6.04s and 0-100kph in 24.84s. The Glamour X is about 10kg lighter, but it runs on narrower, less sporty tyres, so real-world performance may differ slightly.

The Glamour XTEC, on the other hand, produces slightly lower peak power of 10.7hp at 7,500rpm with nearly identical torque of 10.6Nm at 6,000rpm.

Another key differentiator is that the Glamour X features a segment-first ride-by-wire throttle, which enables three riding modes – Power, Road and Eco. While these modes don’t limit top speed, they adjust throttle mapping, changing how the bike delivers power and, ultimately, how it feels to ride.

Hero Glamour X vs Hero Glamour XTEC: Chassis and dimensions

The Glamour XTEC is the lighter of the two motorcycles

Both motorcycles use a similar suspension setup, with a telescopic fork at the front and twin shocks at the rear. They also share the same wheels and tyres – an 80/100-18 at the front and a 100/80-18 at the rear.

Where they differ slightly is in their dimensions. The Hero Glamour X has a seat height of 790mm and a ground clearance of 170mm, while the Glamour XTEC sits a little higher with a 798mm seat height and 180mm ground clearance.

Both models are sold in two variants – one with a front drum brake and the other with a front disc brake. The Glamour XTEC is the lighter of the two, weighing 122kg for the drum version and 123kg for the disc version. In comparison, the Glamour X tips the scales a bit higher, at 125.5kg for the drum variant and 127kg for the disc variant.

Hero Glamour X vs Hero Glamour XTEC: Features

The Glamour X debuts features like cruise control and ride-by-wire in this segment

This is where the two variants diverge most clearly. The Glamour X brings cruise control for the first time in an Indian 125cc commuter, along with the three aforementioned riding modes. It comes with an adaptive colour LCD screen with Bluetooth and includes panic brake alert indicators. The LED headlight is paired with an ambient light sensor that helps it auto-adjust.

However, it’s important to note that many of these premium features, including cruise control, panic brake alert, and the LED tail-lamp and indicators, are only available on the disc variant of the Glamour X.

Meanwhile, the Glamour XTEC keeps things simpler. It comes with a basic digital instrument cluster, but still offers Bluetooth connectivity with call and SMS alerts, giving riders some level of modern convenience without the full set of advanced features found on the Glamour X.

Hero Glamour X vs Hero Glamour XTEC: Price

The Hero Glamour X is positioned at an effective price of Rs 90,000 for the ‘Drum’ variant and Rs 1 lakh for the ‘Disc’ variant (ex-showroom, Delhi). In comparison, the XTEC ‘Drum’ variant is priced slightly higher at Rs 90,500, while its ‘Disc’ variant undercuts the Glamour X ‘Disc’ quite significantly at Rs 95,000.

The reason behind this difference is likely that the Glamour X ‘Disc’ is equipped with additional features, which are absent on the base ‘Drum’ variant.
