The Hero Destini 125 received a top to bottom upgrade recently and it competes in the highly competitive 125cc family scooter category going up against established heavyweights like the Suzuki Access and TVS Jupiter. Here are some reasons why you should consider the Destini 125 and some why you should look elsewhere.
Reasons to buy the Hero Destini 125
1 Overall comfort
In typical Hero fashion, the Destini 125 has excellent seating and suspension comfort. The seat is thick and well-padded with enough room to seat two large adults comfortably. Complementing that is the plush suspension setup which shields you well from the worst bumps you’ll encounter on our roads.
2 Impressive fuel economy
Hero claims a high 60kpl fuel economy figure for the Destini 125 and in our routine fuel efficiency tests, we managed to extract an impressive 58kpl. In this segment - especially in a market like ours - fuel economy is one of the paramount factors that plays into the purchase decision and the Destini is well-placed in this regard.
Reasons not to buy the Hero Destini 125
1 Slow stop/start system, engine refinement
Part of the reason for the Destini’s impressive efficiency is Hero’s i3s start/stop system which kills the engine after a few seconds of idling when stopped. The trouble is that restarting the engine requires a good 3-4 seconds which in impatient big city traffic gets frustrating on a routine basis.
Hero also has some work to do in improving the refinement of the Destini’s engine and in comparison to the segment leader from Suzuki - the Access - the Destini has quite a ways to go.
2 Small boot
With most petrol powered scooters offering 25 litres of underseat storage or thereabouts, on average, the Destini’s 19 litre unit feels quite small in today’s day and age. This is a particularly big miss on a scooter, where bootspace is one of the primary reasons taken into account before a purchase.
