Despite the growing popularity of EVs, one of the biggest hurdles they face from an ownership point of view is their generally higher price compared to the ICE models. The higher upfront cost of EVs, mainly due to the battery pack, makes ICE cars more accessible. To address this, some manufacturers have started offering EVs with Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) schemes, which essentially are subscription plans for the battery pack that help lower the upfront prices substantially. Here’s a list of all the EVs currently on sale with a BaaS rental scheme.
MG Comet EV
BaaS price starts from Rs 4.92 lakh; battery subscription fee is Rs 3.2 per km

The MG Comet EV is one of the most affordable EVs in India, priced from Rs 7.63 lakh, with lower trims featuring a 17.3kWh battery, while higher-spec trims get a 17.4kWh unit. The BaaS scheme lowers the starting price by Rs 2.71 lakh to Rs 4.92 lakh. However, buyers opting for this scheme have to pay a Rs 3.2/km subscription cost for the battery pack. The Rs 2.71 lakh saved can pay the battery subscription fee for around 85,000km.
Do note that when MG introduced the BaaS plan for the Comet EV in 2024, the subscription fee was lower at Rs 2.5 per km, which means that the manufacturer can hike the battery rental cost over time, thus affecting the long-term savings.
Tata Punch EV
BaaS price starts from Rs 6.49 lakh; battery subscription fee is Rs 2.6 per km

The Tata Punch EV facelift is the manufacturer’s first electric offering to be available with a BaaS scheme. While regular prices start from Rs 9.69 lakh, the battery subscription plan lowers the upfront cost by Rs 3.20 lakh, and the rental fee is Rs 2.6 per km. While Tata Motors has revealed BaaS prices of only the entry-spec Smart trim, it is the most affordable battery subscription fee for any car in India.
MG Windsor EV
BaaS price starts from Rs 9.99 lakh; battery subscription fee starts at Rs 3.9 per km

MG introduced the BaaS ownership plan in India with the Windsor EV, which was launched in September 2024 with a 38kWh battery pack. A larger 52.9kWh pack was added to the line-up in May 2025. The Windsor EV’s battery rental fee differs depending on the battery pack option: Rs 3.9 per km for the smaller unit and Rs 4.5 per km for the larger battery. This scheme lowers the upfront cost by up to Rs 5.11 lakh.
Maruti Suzuki e Vitara
BaaS price starts from Rs 10.99 lakh; battery subscription fee starts at Rs 3.99 per km

Maruti Suzuki’s first EV, the e Vitara, is also available with BaaS schemes, and here, too, the subscription fee differs with the battery pack chosen. Maruti charges Rs 3.99 per km for the smaller 49kWh battery and Rs 4.39 per km for the larger 61kWh unit. The upfront cost-saving is up to Rs 5.50 lakh, which is the most for any EV in India.
MG ZS EV
BaaS price starts from Rs 13 lakh; battery subscription fee is Rs 4.5 per km

The ZS EV, MG’s first electric offering in India, received its mid-cycle update in 2022. However, it was only in September 2024 that MG introduced a BaaS scheme for the ZS EV as well as the Comet EV. The subscription fee for the ZS EV, which comes with a 50.3kWh battery pack, is Rs 4.5 per km, the same as that of the Windsor EV Pro. The upfront cost saving of up to Rs 5.24 lakh is also the highest in MG’s electric line-up.
Prices are ex-showroom, India.
