Simple Gen 2 was launched recently with two battery pack options – 4.5kWh and 5kWh, we got to experience the latter and here are a few reasons why you should buy the Simple One and two reasons to skip it.

Smooth performance in Air mode
Simple has introduced two new riding modes — Eco X and Sonic X — taking the total to six: Eco X, Eco, Ride, Air, Sonic and Sonic X. Positioned in the middle of the range, the Air mode offers a balanced blend of performance for both city commutes and highway runs, with smooth acceleration and the ability to cruise comfortably at 85kph
Comfortable
Simple has reworked the suspension at both ends. At lower speeds, especially over speed breakers and potholes, the ride remains comfortable. At higher speeds, sharp bumps and larger potholes can introduce a slight judder, though this is mostly noticeable closer to the scooter’s top speed.
Improvements over its predecessor
A new fixed 5kWh floorboard-mounted battery pack replaces the earlier setup, with higher energy density and lower weight. At 30kg, it is around 4kg lighter than before, while IDC-claimed range increases to 265km from 248km. The lower mounting position aids centre-of-gravity optimisation, and the pack is supported by an updated battery management system

Unstable at higher speeds
At higher speeds, larger impacts can cause a slight judder. While the scooter remains composed at lower speeds, some instability appears at the top end. In Sonic and Sonic X modes, speeds beyond 95km/h result in noticeable handlebar judder, a behaviour observed across multiple test scooters. This unsettles the front end and affects confidence, making the Air mode a more balanced option
Functionality of features
The joystick on the left-hand side offers easy access to several features, but it didn’t always respond consistently and often required multiple presses to register inputs. Overall, while the feature list is extensive, the functionality can feel occasionally inconsistent and would benefit from further refinement.
