Bonnie Thomas won the second race of round two of the Volkswagen Polo R Cup 2014 in Coimbatore. This is also his second victory of the season. Starting second on the grid, he gained first position at the first corner and dominated the race till the end. Bonnie was trailed by Karminder Pal Singh and Yatin Magu at second and third positions respectively.

With rains coming in just half an hour before the race, the drivers were forced to go in with wet tyres. Although the rains stopped, the track did not dry up, creating tricky situations for the drivers all through the race.

Bonnie Thomas said, “The conditions were challenging and I didn’t know how the tyres will react. I overtook Prabhanjan in C1 and then could maintain the lead. I had to push to the limits throughout the race. Volkswagen has put together a fantastic race car, which is pure fun to compete in.”

Karminder started in the sixth position but climbed his way up to the second position by lap five, and then held this position till the end of the race; Yatin started fifth, climbed up to number two, but then slipped to the third position and retained it till the end. Yatin faced strong competition from Anshul Manoj Shah, Utsav Shah and Lee Keshav Gupta. All four of them battled hard all through the race.

Sirish Vissa, head of Volkswagen Motorsport concluded the race weekend by saying, “I am very happy with this weekend as there has been a lot of action on the track. The start was difficult for the drivers as they did not have prior experience with such tricky conditions. However, they worked well and quickly adjusted their driving styles to the wet track.”
