Chevrolet will finally be bringing its gargantuan Trailblazer SUV to India, but is it a little too late? We’ve driven the car this month to tell you if it’ll be giving Toyota any sleepless nights. Speaking of which, we’ve also got a detailed preview of the next-gen Innova and Fortuner that are due next year, and while on the subject of big people-movers, Tata revealed its new crossover concept, the Hexa, at Geneva, and we’ve got an in-depth look. On top of that, we’ve done one of our biggest comparison tests yet – nine cars! Which is the best diesel mid-size sedan in the country? That’s how you find out. It’s a jam-packed issue, and the following is but a taste of what’s in store.
Chevrolet Trailblazer – Chevrolet hasn’t had a great run here in India, with its Tavera MUV being the only car to have made anything close to a dent in its segment. The company is looking to make a comeback with its massive seven-seat SUV – the Trailblazer, which we’ve driven this month – in an attempt to win over the Indian car buyer in a popular segment. There’s just the small matter of the Toyota Fortuner.
New Toyota Innova and Fortuner – The Innova is Toyota’s superstar in India, and after over a decade at the top, it will finally be replaced by a new model in 2016. We’ve got all the details on the new car, which will be even more upmarket than today’s Innova. There’s also a tonne of new information on the next-gen Fortuner SUV, which will follow its MPV sibling into showrooms.
Tata Hexa – Following on from the Bolt and Zest, the next Tata car to be reworked from the ground up is the Aria, which has been reborn as the Hexa concept. It’s now been given new interiors and seriously rugged styling and previews the face of the next generation of Tata SUVs and crossovers.
Mega diesel mid-size comparo – How do you truly find the best car in a very popular segment? You bring the whole segment along, of course. We’ve put the Verna, Ciaz, City, Vento, Rapid, Fiesta, Sunny, Scala and Linea into the ring together with their diesel engines and manual gearboxes to properly scrutinise their pros and cons.
Hyundai i20 Active – ‘Cross hatchbacks’ haven’t quite set the market on fire, but Hyundai believes its i20 Active will be the exception. It is, after all, based on one of the best hatchbacks in the country. Read our first drive report to see what we think about the car.
Mercedes-Benz CLA vs Audi A3 – This segment of compact luxury sedans has a lot riding on it, and Audi has had the advantage of being the sole player since the A3’s launch last year. Mercedes, however, has a very impressive offering on its hands with the CLA, and we set out to find out which of the two is better.
Ducati Scrambler – Ducati has just made its official re-entry into the Indian market, and we think the Scrambler could be the perfect motorcycle to fuel its comeback. Light, practical, compact and easy to ride, this might just be the bike to get the Italian company back on its wheels.
Motorsport – Formula 1 is back, and we’ve got the first race report from the 2015 season. All the excitement from the latest edition of Baja SAE India, along with the latest news and race reports from the world of motor racing.
