There is a lot going on behind the scenes at Tata Motors, and the recently launched Zest and Bolt are just the tip of the iceberg. We take a peek into the future and bring you Tata’s new model plan for the next five years. We’ve also driven Mercedes’ most affordable sedan, the svelte CLA-class, two new luxury cars from Audi and a couple of really big bikes from Harley and Triumph. We’ve put the Tata Bolt diesel up against two of its major rivals, and the new Toyota Fortuner 4x4 Automatic faces off against the SsangYong Rexton.
Saying Tata to the past – After a bit of a slow patch in the market Tata is looking to re-invent itself. The Zest and the Bolt have given us a teaser of what is in store for the future, but we’ve been able to dig out some more plans that the carmaker has for the next five years, including 12 new models for the Indian market.
Mercedes-Benz CLA-class – Finally, Merc’s entry-level sedan is here. The Audi A3 rival is undoubtedly a stunner to look at, but to take on the potent baby-Audi, it will need much more than just that. Does it deliver both style and substance? We find out in our first drive.
Bolt vs rivals – The Tata Bolt offers big-car space and features, but is priced half a notch lower down than an all-out premium hatchback. We’ve put the diesel version of the new Tata up against a pair of sub-premium hatchbacks – the Hyundai Grand i10 and Toyota Etios Liva.
Maruti Ciaz Road Test – Maruti’s rival to the Honda City has tried and tested engines, is spacious, practical, comfortable, well-equipped, and quite good looking too. But now, we’ve strapped the V-Box on to it and put it through our comprehensive road test treatment.
Audi A8 60 TDI – Audi has given its facelifted limousine a bigger 4.2-litre diesel heart. But the luxury quotient combined with increased performance obviously makes it more expensive. Read our report to find out if it’s worth stretching your budget for this more powerful diesel A8.
Fortuner vs Rexton – Always quite a popular big SUV in our markets, the Fortuner has been given some updates by Toyota; the 3.0-litre 4x4 Fortuner now comes with an automatic gearbox. Does this added convenience of an auto ’box to the 4WD model give it one-up over the SsangYong Rexton?
