Autocar India Magazine

Issue: 182  |  October 2014

The Indian auto industry has all but pulled itself out of the slump that it was in two years ago, and what better proof of that than the massive number of new launches we’ve had recently. And it’s only going to get better over the next year, so this month we’ve brought you our annual list of all the exciting new cars that will go on sale soon. With 50 cars in total, there’s something in there for everyone; you simply can’t miss it.
New Mahindra Scorpio – After over a decade, Mahindra's mega-hit SUV gets its biggest update yet. Yes, the looks are more aggressive, and there’s more equipment too, but the big news is an all-new chassis and five-speed manual gearbox that promise to improve its ride and handling significantly.
Maruti Ciaz – Maruti is taking another swing at a segment it has never done too well in. With the Ciaz, the Indian carmaker has gone all out to take on the other mid-size sedans that are available in the market today. And just to see how well it fares, we brought along the best in the business, the Honda City, for a comparison.
Jaguar XE – One thing that can’t be argued is that the new XE looks stunning. But the baby Jag needs more than just good looks to challenge the likes of the Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 3-Series. Read our detailed first look to find out if it has what it takes.
Volvo XC90 – Volvo’s new generation of cars starts with an all-new version of its flagship SUV, the XC90. The handsome seven-seater promises the core values of the brand, safety and versatility, but also a whole lot more luxury and technology than before.
Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 CDI – We drove the petrol version last month, but now it’s time to try out the one that’s likely to become the more popular choice with customers. We put the diesel version of Merc’s new luxury compact SUV contender through its paces.
Skoda Rapid DSG – Not only has Skoda given its Rapid the VW Group’s new 1.5-litre TDI engine, it’s also thrown in a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox as well. We’ve tried out this new engine and gearbox combo to see if it makes the Rapid a more attractive proposition.
KTM RC390 – KTM sure knows its way around adventure and off-road motorcycles. Now they have taken on an adventure themselves, and we join them in Italy to ride their latest offering in their sportsbike lineup – the RC390.
There are road tests, features, plenty of big news and a lot more in the issue. Grab your copy now!
