The MU-X got a mild update in 2018 and is on offer in diesel-auto form, with an optional four-wheel drive on offer.

The Isuzu MU-X has a strong SUV stance but looks a tad unexciting. Likewise, the neat cabin also lacks the sense of occasion you get inside rival SUVs. On the plus side, the MU-X’s high-set cabin offers a great view out, there’s lots of room in the middle row and even the third row is comfy and useable.
Judged against rivals’ engines, the Isuzu MU-X’s 177hp, 3.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine comes across as noisy and lacking outright punch. The 5-speed auto gearbox can also feel indecisive at times. What also works against the MU-X is its heavy steering and bouncy, high-speed ride.

The MU-X is offered in a single trim only, and the real choice is between rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. Both versions do have the same feature set and come with six airbags, ESC and hill-start assist. Leather seats, powered driver’s-seat adjust and cruise control are some of the other features on board. The MU-X does miss out on some goodies like auto headlights and wipers – and even bits like the basic touchscreen infotainment system make it feel pared down in comparison to its pricier rivals.
