After Skoda, Volkswagen is the second mainstream car brand from the VW Group to launch its cars and SUVs in India. The German car brand has sold models like the Polo, Vento, Touareg, Phaeton, Passat and the Jetta. Currently, it sells cars and SUVs like the Taigun, Virtus and the Tiguan Allspace SUVs.
Volkswagen’s India line-up currently starts with the Taigun SUV that rivals the Kushaq and the Hyundai Creta in India. The Taigun is a sister product to the Skoda Kushaq and both models are built alongside each other at Volkswagen’s Chakan plant near Pune. The Volkswagen Virtus is the cheapest sedan from the brand, and it shares its underpinnings with the Skoda Slavia. Both models rival the likes of the Hyundai Verna and the Honda City.
Upcoming Volkswagen cars in India include the Golf GTI will be sold as full import and is likely to be priced around Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). Additionally, similar to the Skoda Kylaq, there will be an all-new Volkswagen compact SUV coming to India sometime by end 2025 or early 2026. Upcoming Volkswagen electric car launch in India is likely to include the ID.4 SUV that will rival the BYD Sealion 7.
