Nissan has been selling cars and SUVs in India for around two decades. It shares its manufacturing facility with its sister brand Renault at Oragadam near Chennai, and both brands manufacture and export cars, MPVs and SUVs here. They also have an R&D Centre in Chennai that prepares future Nissan cars and SUVs for global markets.
The most popular Nissan car in India is the Magnite SUV, which is sold locally and is exported to many countries. The Magnite rivals the Renault Kiger, Citroen C3 and the Maruti Fronx, and comes with a 1.0-litre petrol engine in naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms.
While the Nissan Sunny sedan is not sold in India anymore, the car is still popular internationally, and to cater to this demand, Nissan India manufactures the Sunny at its Chennai plant for the Middle East and African markets.
Upcoming Nissan cars in India include the all-new Duster-based SUV that will take on the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Maruti Grand Vitara. Additionally, Nissan will also launch an all-new Renault Triber-based MPV. Both models are expected to go on sale by late 2025 or early 2026.
